It’s a digger for strip mining coal (German machine) in the process of being moved from one mine to another. Saw it on television, even more awesome close up.

    • IGiveUpOnOriginality says:

Never have I been so proud to be German.

      • Rafer says:

        man, my thoughts definitely !

      • Sarge says:

You Germans do know that other nations build and use and transport these things too, right? It’s not exclusive to Germany.

Now look sad and say “Schinzel!”

        • MAry says:

          XD Ahhhhhh.

        • Swiss says:

          It’s actually “Schnitzel”, not “Schinzel”.
Now look sad and say “Kindergarten!”

          • pillermann says:

            you win

          • Zodi says:

You’re Awesome! Thank you for doing that! It made my day better:D

          • Bob Maloogaloogaloogalooga says:

Shut up, loser. Americans literally won the right to call anything “german”, anything we like. You don’t like that fact, win the right back. Until then:
            Schinzel and f**k you!

            • nonsense! says:

what are you talking? If you are refering to WWII, then it was Soviet Union, who actually fought the decisive battles. When USA sent forces to Europe, Wermacht was already been retreating for a year

              • Bob Maloogaloogaloogalooga says:

Ridiculous the notion. Spoken like a child who works for the fox news network and only tells part of the story. BTW, what other war did we defeat Germany in since you appear to be confused about which war I was speaking of?

                • Mr BBQ says:

you sir, need to re-read yoru history books, as he was right… you seem like an misinformed, ignorant bigot with the way you speak

                • Grim says:

He was right indeed… The USSR did all the fighting in Europe while the USA was distracted by that little bugger called Japan… Remember Pearl Harbor, right?

And for your information, the USA (and allies) actually DID beat Germany (and allies) in the first world war. Ever wondered why the second world war is called the SECOND world war?

                  • 2more says:

yup america and allies. Thats the point, this one nation that back than had less than 70 million people has always been competing against hundreds of million allied enemies. We lost the wars, that true. But damn we were efficient at it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WorldWarII-DeathsByAlliance-Piechart.png

                  • Babczuk says:

voz the commie putch made for an easy signin gof a peace treaty wit a for from defeated german army?

                  • Blake says:

Actually America joined WWI right at the end. ‘Ooh, let’s be part of the victors!’ was the basic catchphrase.
In WWII, America putzed about while the Soviets did the brunt of the fighting. Germany pretty much singlehandedly held out against ridiculous odds for years. Although it is true that without the support of BRITAIN, Russia would have been in much more trouble. And without the support of American industrial output.
Really, America’s main influence in both wars was through being cheap labour for its European allies’ material needs.

                    • hypnotoad/candlejack says:

actually amerika was the deciding factor in ww1. Germany was severly worn down. we would’ve won in ww1 after the russians left but the u.s reinstated the stalemate

                  • Ginger says:

Yes, the US was more concentrated on Japan, but we also handled the little force of Italy (in part), while the UK and Soviet Union were concentrated on the European Super-Power (of that time) called Nazi Germany.

                  • Sean Curvelo says:

you seam to have forgotten the Battle of the Bulge and other such battles
the Americans let the Soviets take Berlin
Americans were not simply dealing with Japan (remember Normandy? Does Eisenhower ring a bell? guess what he was American)

                  • Sean Curvelo says:

                    you are correct about WWI

                • But.... says:

You make being an American embarrassing, you’re kind of like an online Obama.

                • Ten years older than you! says:

You know that the one who fought the WW2 were the Nazi’s and the country called Germany today might be the most nazi free country in the whole world.

                • Dicast1 says:

WWI,we helped the Brits and everyone else and Germany was so friggin scared they surrendured after forcing them to retreat.

            • Babczuk says:

Damn u americans are not only ignorant but you alsothink u can get away with it … look how far it has brought u ..u got big on our backs with the marshal loans and stealing our intelligentia but now… on ur way back to the slums…you still loudmouth…cant u see? it s all over because of generation after generation of inbred hicks like u.

              • weapwns expert says:

im sick of this american ignorance as well. stealing inventions an titles from other nations. and ww1 was not a loss for Deutschland. the “allies” never stepped foot in Germany except for when the russians invaded early on. and the got pushed very far back. America has never won a war on its own. Germany fought EVERY MAJOR POWER and fought well. the rest of the world still trys to stay on our good side as when it comes to tech and tactics we cant be beat. only the superiority in numbers saved the allies.

                • deathtrap says:

America has finished wars started by Europeans, and america has never declared war against another country since Korea. Saying that only Russia defeated Germany is ignorant and stupid. With out America coming in to fight with the Allies in WW1 and 2 Europe would’ve been overrun with Nazis. WW1 wasn’t really Germany’s war, it was Austria-Hungary’s. I do agree that in WW2 the Nazi’s did fight hard and held out, but as soon as america came in, they lost. No one country has really won on its own. Everyone has alliances for a reason, hell, even Nazi Germany had one with italy and japan. Singling out america is also ignorant and stupid. America has stolen inventions, or those inventors came over to america. We haven’t stolen many inventions, the people from other countries that made them came over here.

                • Paul says:

“WWI was not a loss for Deutschland.” Sehr komisch! I’m glad to see that the “Dolchstoss” theory is still alive and well. I thought it had died by now.

              • Joe says:

With spelling like that, I think you made the US look better.

            • forkforkforkfork says:

Personally, I think the Germans redeemed themselves when they came up with Staplerfahrer Klaus.

Also, all those awesome board games. They totally kick our board games’ asses.

            • really says:

              i live in berlin
              i hate this horror machine
when the 3rd nuclear armageddon comes the thing will be wiped out from this planet with us
              thank god

            • Atani says:

Just let it go. You are an ass to still hang this over peoples heads. It s over. God damn grudge people…

        • HeyHo says:

Schinzel? you mean Schnitzel? You know that this is at the Braunkohleabbau in Nordrhine Westfalia?

          • But.... says:

I think he was trying to type the German word for “sh*t” which is something I have no idea how to spell and am too lazy to look up at the moment so I’m not even going to attempt.

        • Rick Roll says:

        • Sarah says:

          Schnitzel*

        • Rob says:

you spelled schnitzel wrong, you stupid american.

        • 2more says:

comeon lets keep it real, u can say about us germans whatever u want but one thing is for sure, our machinery is running this world. No nation exports nearly as many machines as the germans. You just gotta give us that one. You can keep the worldrecord for consuming, we’re happy with the one for producing, thank you very much.

          • Gariandos says:

I’m American and I do agree on that, Germans make good stuff. Too many people seem to argue which country is better, but they each do their own individual part, so in a way, they’re all equal.

      • Nintura says:

Too bad the Nasa Crawler is even bigger. At 6000 tons with 4 1600 horsepower engines.

    • seer says:

Is that in transformers? I think its one of the decepticons.

      • Devon says:

naw its not in any of the movies, but ill be damned if i miss that thing in action if it is.

      • Brawler_1337 says:

No, it’s not in any of the movies. However, a Mini-Con from Transformers: Armada was based off of one of these machines (I actually have that one, for the record, so it is real).

Do you have to sign EACH AND EVERY post you make? It gets TRULY annoying after the first time and—No. It’s annoying even the first time around.

        • KarmikCykle says:

Yes he does, because you may miss seeing his name in the required “Name” field, and then you might not realize you should begin heaping praise his way for his wit.

  5. togtfo says:

    Devastator got an upgrade.

  6. Rashkavar says:

Bucket Wheels: Being more awesome than anything else you can build since inception. (They’re the largest class of vehicles in the world, by a significant margin.)

Germany has a couple that mine semi-hard rock, too. Stuff that’s harder than coal but softer than granite. Only works in Germany because they’re the only ones with maintenance people good/stubborn enough to make it work (and honestly I don’t know if it’s talent or stubborness that does it).

Anyone seen the photo of one of these with a dozer sitting on its conveyor? It’s happened at least once, though I haven’t seen the photo outside of lecture halls (and being a mining engineering student, yes, I get classes that have photos of such things).

  7. nickelodeon23 says:

A giant saw thing for asses? Or a saw thing for giant asses? How do you know it’s for asses at all?!

  8. Johnny R. says:

It’s called a Bagger 288 Excavator mainly used to dig up coal and other mining stuff. Don’t know what country it’s in I really don’t care either it’s big sucks up money and resources and man power hmm… It’s probably in Europe, or Russia, probably Russia

    • Eddy Jay says:

  15. Psychonik3 says:

Its the thing they use to cut your dog’s balls of at the vet.

  16. Charlie says:

We do have such ‘scary’ ones in Australia. In fact, that picture is incredibly similar to pictures of the dredge they moved across the Princess Highway in the Latrobe Valley in the late 1980′s. They’re fun to climb on :P

It’s a Bucketwheel. It was used at Syncrude, an oil sand refinery, in Fort McMurray, Alberta. It’s kind of a tourist attraction now.

  22. GG says:

A similar altmode was used for the Transformer toy Metroplex in the Cybertron line (aka Megalo Convoy in Japan). It’s got the same giant digging wheel sticking out of the front, anyway.

  23. Obnixilis says:

His name is Metroplex, I had actually always wondered what a real one looked like :p

The biggest vehicles on earth! I grew up near Garzweiler (Germany, near Cologne), where Bagger 288 is digging coal. It’s the biggest there is with Bagger 293 (Hambach, Germany).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagger_288
Standing right next to one is awe-inspiring, they’re nearly 100m high and 300m long. Never felt so tiny and insignificant.

they use this thing to constantly mine coal and immediately conveyor belt feed it into a fire… the coal and dirt and whatever else they dig up… its called brown coal and its twice as bad for the environment as refined coal but it doesnt use as much electricity and truck fuel to process so they claim it’s cleaner for the environment… such a farce.

  68. hurpadurp says:

these things are featured in the map Radiation on Black Ops, although as the name suggests they’re probably digging up uranium instead of coal
