Bella is annoying. Robert Pattinson is pretty hot. After reading the Twilight series 3 times I have decided that is really is crap. Oh and BTW, there is NO way those mums are 40+ they are like early to mid 30′s. Just my opinion of course!

No, actually, he’s mostly right. He’s wrong when he sees that the 1900 life expectancy was 50 and so thinks that that means the average adult lived to 50. But you’re wrong if you think that infant mortality was the only factor in why it’s lower. By the 1900s infant mortality had already been reduced from the 80%+ of the 1700s to early 1800s to a very small number. And so when the average life expectancy, including infants, was 50 in the 1900s, that does in fact represent an average adult age of the mid to late 50s.

The other commonly stated, but wrong, fact about life expectancy is that without the infant mortality, the ancient romans/greeks lived as long as us. That’s true if you are in the 1900s, where although the greeks’ high infant mortality cause their average age to be only 28 compared to the “modern” 50, their adults were living to the same mid-50s that 1900 American adults were living. But in the last 100 years we’ve not only further lowered infant mortality, we’ve also raised the average life expectancy for adults by 25 years and climbing. So it’s not true anymore.
