Seriously bro? I laughed when I saw the picture, and I’ve been maced and involved in several peaceful-protests-turned-violent (by the volition of the police).
Jakob, along with many of the other people who found it funny, I am well educated (private schooled with a good academic record and an IQ of 140), only ever play Little Big Planet on a rare occasion, and I have a good life with a great family and a great job.
And I chuckle every time I look at this picture. Coz let’s be fair, if it weren’t for riot police, hippies would never get a good hosing. It just helps keep everyone fresh and clean.
It’s just that Hippies are primary irrelevant to revolts (especially if they have to be taken down forcefully by police), the utter ignorance of other cultures, the fact there is no proof that hippie-culture-devotees were on this occasion and the absolutely stupid subtitle that does not say anything.
If you think that hippies are only associated to hobos, flowers, long hair and revolts that end with punishment of civilians, then you should stay out of anything that is related to them.
I am not a PETA/Greenpeace-freak that thinks you can change the world by spilling swine blood on random people, but I am smart enough to know that this poster is not funny.
I assume you think this is hilarious since you think that this force is heading to a revolt (that consists, as you believe, of “hippies”) to stop the strike by using tear gas and clubbing escapees, but it’s not.

While there is no proof that hippies where relevent in this picture, It also doesnt rule it out. Im pretty sure you did not take this pic, nor write the caption. Therefore you cant say whether or not they were hippies. And since you cant, Dont try to prove a point you cant prove. IF, and ONLY IF, this was taken in St Paul, MN in 2008 as the special police squads were outfitted just like these officers, then it would be true. I was there for riot control with the NG (B co 1/194 CAB infantry), and the people causing trouble, NOT EVERYONE, but the ones causing trouble WERE hippies…As this poster implies.

Because like a lot of other people here, I am a smart & educated person.
But i also only shower once or twice a week cause i know that natural human grease is better for you than body wash or shampoo.
I also believe in the idea of unconditional love for all people and living things, because i believe we are all one, and together as one we can untie spiritually and complete any task physically or mentally perceivable. That is to say i believe we are all one consciousness, life is a magical dream ( compared to today’s staggeringly low standard of imaginative thinking. ) These concepts help me exist intelligently and keep me prepared for the unexplainable ridiculousness we face everyday in this world.
But you know what else i believe? I believe that a good million people on this world, with no discrimination involved, should be quickly murdered or eliminated. Simply because this world can’t hold us anymore, we’ve abused it and it’s fighting back.
Now, which of these things would YOU consider being a hippy?

I believe it’s a little rash, and a little too easy to just go throwing people in labeled boxes like that. I mean, i could just as easily call you the problem with this picture. Why would a group of people who had a common need or goal, need to cause “trouble”? I’ve studied this event, and i know as much as i would need to know, to say confidently, that those said “Hippys” thought YOU were causing more trouble than them.

Sorry but I got to go with Jakob. It’s not that it isn’t cool to make fun of beating up hippies and that riot gear isn’t a riot, but I think it’s the fact that it’s not funny. I don’t look at this and say “Man that was witty! I can’t help but smirk!” I look at it and think very few riot police battalions have ever been used on hippies so what is the association? If it was a picture of 20 dogs tied on hemp leashes mauling a guy in tie-dye, well that would poignant and funny, but this is just for people who really are the lowest common denominator in humor and seem to have some media-washed sense of what a hippy or riot police are. It’s because (in part) of them that this moderm sociaty is this liberal, you know? to hippie girls it was like this: “if guys can go shirtless, me too”. is exactly why it’s funny. I was part of a riot unit for 6 month (military service in my country is mandatory) and there never was anything hippie-like anywhere near us. But as “stupit, stupid violent hooligans” and “stupid, stupid skinheads” or “stupid, stupid ” aren’t that funny by a huge margin (cause these things DID happen, and they weren’t fun) it’s hippies for this one
