  34. DrPluton says:

I never had one of these. I made all of my roads for Hot Wheels with Lego’s.

  35. Planner_Hammish says:

the dominant thing I see on this mat is roadways & parking lots, followed by airport and bus stop and gas stations. There are a few government uses (police, hospital) sprinkled throughout but there are no public centres, economic areas (not even ‘strip malls’) but definitely not pedestrian-oriented areas, employment areas, or even residential for that matter; the mat reinforces soul-less (sub)urban fabric; a car-culture devoid of community or neighbourlyness. I never had one of these growing up, and I think my parents made a good call on that one.

    • NoahTheSlash says:

      ……………….no

    • Pennyforth says:

So the car carpet was a low-tech predecessor of urban-based racing video games–a cityscape that you can blast through at high speeds with no worries about splattering pedestrians all over your hood or windshield.

  36. bookhobbit says:

I had one…but I pretty much let my sister take over it. Didn’t care too much for the thing.

  37. Des says:

Wow, i had that exact one

  38. Lainie says:

I didn’t have the money when my kids were little (they’re all in their 20s now) so I made one out of a chunk of green denim and a bunch of fabric and trim scraps, and embroidered the road signs and stripes on the roads and such. Man, I haven’t even thought of that for years. I wonder if any of them still has it?

  39. kennethj says:

It’s been ages! and now I feel so old… I remember my parents gave me one, but they actually nailed it to the floor, so I couldn’t roll in it or anything… Dang I miss my old carpet :(

I did wreck a lot of Barbie cars by launching then down the cement porch steps (with the dolls inside, of course) though.

    • Casa says:

Yah, I never wanted one eather. Was so much funner to launch my hotwheels off the roof… you know, once my parents caved in and bought a GIRL some damned toy cars.

      • ToadGirl says:

I couldn’t get my folks to quit getting me boy’s toys. I buried all my hotwheels in the front yard. By the time we moved several years later, my Dad still hadn’t managed to find them all with his metal detector!
