  9. Hyrax2004 says:

Yes: 100 years old. No: not a tombstone. It’s Icelandic artist Einnar Jonsson’s sculpture “Ymir (the Earth Giant) and Audumla (the Mother of All Cows).” Go see it in the courtyard of the Einnar Jonsson Museum in downtown Reykjavik. For EJ this only rates a “Medium Weirdness.”

    • GaujaDaBiatch says:

Thank you. I’ve walked past that statue a thousand times and I never saw anything dirty about it. Shame on those internet people for not understanding internet art. Also: tombstone? wtf?

    • sherlizz says:

thanks for settting the record straight. I’d like to see more of his work. Googled, But can’t find any information about Einnar Jonsson sofar… not even the museum you mentioned.

    • AndromedA says:

I don’t know the author but I at least figured this was about Norse mythology – Ymir being nurtured by Audhumla.

      • Bear666 says:

This is a depiction of what really happened in the time when humans were yet to be made by The All-father. I can’t see how this version is any less accurate than “God created everything in 6 days and then he rested.” If one is mythology, or both are.

  10. KarmikCykle says:

In Soviet Russia, cow tips you.

    Please forgive me for that.

  11. Mike says:

Yeah they finally banned RWJ!! :D but I was starting to like making fun of him :(

  12. Darrell says:

Gives “Got milk?” a new, and somewhat disturbing, meaning. Particularly for the cow who is, presumably, about to Get Milk all over its face.

  13. Megz says:

    What. The…*passes out*

  14. Jon boi says:

Rule 34 has struck again…and rule 69…i blame 4chan for this atrocity

  15. The Mad Monkey says:

    When did Tom Green die?

  16. Lynz Catastrophe says:

    ACK!!

  17. Mel says:

This is hardly a true 69 though.

  18. boggart says:

I think the real questions are: Who would put this on their tombstone? And WHY??

    • Hapqy says:

The guy who first discovered that you can get drinkable milk from cows (little-known factoid: most people can’t digest the stuff properly).

As long as no-one asks him what he was trying to do when he discovered it.

    • fiendishrabbit says:

It’s Ymer (the world giant) being fed by Audhumbla and is a part of the norse creation myth.
Since the Ymer of the myth was chopped to pieces (by Odin and his two brothers) and his body used to create the world it’s has a symbolic meaning that from death comes creation and new life.

That is why someone would put it on their tombstone.

      • FromIceland says:

fiendishrabbit is right, this sculpture is indeed of Ymer and Audhumla. However, this picture is NOT taken in a cemetary, but at the artist’s museum in Reykjavík, Iceland. You can easily see the name of the artist on the lower right corner of the statue (Einar Jónsson, 1909).

I dunno if this particular piece of art has ever been put on a tombstone, at least this picture is not of a tombstone at all, just to make that clear. The demotivator is mildly funny though.

      • taebek says:

If memory serves, Hindu tradition also includes a story of one of its gods being fed by a cow while injured in human form on earth.

      • Brandon says:

Fiendishrabbit, I do believe you’re correct. Thanks for sharing… I learned something today.

    • grey says:

maybe someone really hated the guy and decided to get revenge. it’s not like “you” actually put your tombstone on your grave, someone else does it, so they basically can do whatever they want.

  19. by xmelox says:

    Thank you for this Page

  20. Drone Leader says:

Is that cow wearing army boots?

  21. sterna says:

Also: Not a tombstone. Still funny.

  22. harem_lord says:

It’s dangerous to motorboat a cow.

  23. timbenzidrene says:

Hey bartender – ya got any milk on draft??????

  24. amyree says:

I am glad somebody had a reasonable explanation for this–ahh, those norskies–because I was considerably non-plussed by this entire concept. Get a stall, fr’crapsake….

  25. fernblatt says:

While I’m familiar with the Norse legend, it still would make a good headstone for someone who had been raised by wild cows. lol

  26. amanda says:

It’s kind of a smallish cow, compared to the size of the man-figure. If I were Audumla, I’d be pissed.

  27. Rain says:

“…and I lowered myself beneath her, and held my mouth to her swollen udder, and sucked the sweetest milk I have ever tasted…~*SLUUUURP!*~”

    • Anonymous Coward says:

Since the thread has drifted as it has, here is some good topcoat drift from an old farm boy (please, no sheep jokes lol)

All joking aside, a glass of “fresh squeezed” whole milk, before it is processed, is a wonderful treat to behold. If you’ve not ever tasted full-cream milk, it will be worth *any* effort it takes to find it.

Goat’s milk is quite good as well and goatish (NOT GOATSE!!!) products are good for folks that can’t process regular moo-milk.

      • Harpuia says:

Sheep joke sonly work if you’re Scottish.

      • mavisbeecon says:

doesn’t raw milk give most people a wicked nasty stomach ache after a few minutes?

        • PseudoAnonymousCoward says:

Yea, it does that to me. It’s cuz it’s WHOLE milk. Sort of like drinking “Half-And-Half” creamer straight, but even more rich. Doesn’t store well, since it hasnt been boiled and homogenized, and if let set for a while, the cream and butterfat rises to the top. Need to take care and make sure everything is clean alomg the way from the udder to the comtainer where you store it. (Heaven forbid you get a batch from cattle that have been grazing on wild onions. bleh. Sirt of like a sour cream & chive sauce but in greasy liquid form! lol

Raw milk *Is* nutricious, though. Very good for home made cheeses, yogurt/keffir and ice cream. Way too much fat for daily consumption, at least IMHO. Way better if you seperate out most of the cream if drinking daily or eating with cereal and such.

Hey, I grew up in a rural area way back when family farms were the norm , not a newly discovered yuppu thing. lmao!

        • PseudoAnonymousCoward says:

OTOH, the dogs and cats – particularly cats – always loved it even fresh and warm “right out of the tap” heehee

Another thing is goat milk is waaay better and more digestible by people than milk

          • PseudoAnonymousCoward says:

            oops, sorry…

that last bit was just a comment that goat and sheep milk are easier to digest than cattle milk, with the added advantage of goat milk being lower in fat. Never have gotten used to the “tangy” taste of goat milk, though. Another advantage of goats is they are way less picky with what they eat, and eat Waaaaszzy less than cattle. Friendlier, too – can make good pets, pets that will keep your lawn trimmed. heehee

        • AnonymousCoward says:

As a kid, I used to drink it right from the bucket if hand-milking. It is very very rich. Can’t drink the stuff now that I be growed up, though. Just as well , what with all the fat and cholesterol that’s in it.

    • that… was weird, arousing and disturbing at the fudging same time

  28. who wants to be remembered for THAT?

  29. Supercat! says:

omg!? What iz he DOING? Maybe it’s a new strategy of milking.

  30. Bear666 says:

If they are going to teach creationism in schools they should also have to teach the version of creation this image came from, along with that of the Hindus, Buddhists, Ancient Greeks Ancient Egyptian and every other creation tale on Earth, just to make sure they have to correct one covered.

  31. HenHen says:

    Da fu–?

  32. The sarcastic wolf says:

    Im glad he dead.
