hehe yeah i’m living by the sognefjord, the worlds second longest fjord! i have acctually heard the reason we have alot of the same sounds as you in my dialect, is that the icelandic people are descendents from norwegian emigrants who traveled from the area where i’m from!

Yes! We have the letter “á” which has that sound. We pronounce “bátur” like “baotur”

Hey! i’m from a part in western norway where i think our dialect is quite similar to icelandic, at least compared to the rest of norway. We also say “fjeddl” when we pronounce the word “fjell”(mountain). We have that extra d-sound in alot of words where there is a double l. And we also have the ao-sound. for example “boat” we pronounce “baot”. dont you guys do that as well?

No actually it’s more like “fladla” and “jukudl”. It sounds as if there’s an extra “d”. And I think the icelandic names for places and mountains make more sense than say, American. They actually mean something. Like for instance Kópavogur( the second largest town in Iceland, right after Reykjavík): Kópur = baby seal – Vogur = Bay. It is called so because once upon a time a lot of seals were in the Bay. But like Missisippi? What the… Does that even mean something. Maybe it did one day though… I don’t know, whatever. Reykjavík also – Reykur = smoke – Vík is another word for bay. Just if you wanted to know

P.S. This is not a negative comment if you’re going to be mean. I’m just saying. And not everybody in iceland is self-centred. Yes, we can be a bit proud of our nation and heritage but that’s normal for such a small island-country. Wow that’s probably the longest comment I’ve ever written in a forum.

If you’re from Worcester, Massachusetts, its pronounced ‘Wus-tah’ , taking the accent into consideration, of course.
And it’s easy to make fun of Worcester, I’m from there, I know.
