Pattinson isn’t that bad of an actor. The only movies people actually see him in is the Twilight series. It is just nearly impossible to make a role in Twilight work. He is actually decent in other movies, from what I have seen.
I know! Why did Cedric have to die? If he lived for the other books/movies, Robert Pattinson’s talent wouldn’t be wasted on Twilight.

Here’s the weird thing, Harry Potter is almost as hyped as Twilight. Read some of the books, saw a few movies, got bored as hell. Not horrible and culturally humiliating like Twilight, but Harry Potter is by no means close to say Lord of the Rings, the Star Wars OT, and Indiana Jones. Uh, 1 and 3. They’re just above average kids books essentially, with places like “The Forbidden Forest” and “Invisibility Cloaks,” not really that much imagination to come up with names like those.
No, I’m not trolling, though I am sure some HP fan is going to give me an ear full.
I really can’t get how people are going “HP is no better than Twilight”. I mean, I read all of HP books, and enjoyed all of them, but I couldn’t even finish the first Twilight book, it seemed as if it there was no structure in writing the “book” or the chapters, talking about stuff just to fill the blanks, while in HP, you can find stuff that appeared in the first book, reappearing in the final book, you can feel the plot.
What you call lack of imagination is actually not overdoing it, coming up with names to every single object can be pretty much annoying for the readers. And I believe JK Rowling proved enough imagination through out the books.
Regardless of all these arguments, Harry potter > Twilight.
Harry Potter is better than Twilight, but I found it to be trite myself. I’ve read the Lord of the Rings, and it was taxing, but seeing the movies and reading the books again helped further my patience for reading the detail.
Essentially the difference between studying a great Renaissance piece for an hour, which may seem tedious, but well worth the knowledge, to seeing a piece of art done by a talented high schooler imitating the Renaissance piece. Twilight is the scribbles you do while taking notes in class.

Its a great series for kids so you can’t compare it to Starwars which was directed towards young adults.
I’ve always liked Harry Potter. But the main thing that bothers me about twilight is not the story, it’s the girls and the vampires. How they act like they are vampires and think Edward or Jacob or what’s his face is going to be there husband. It’s just – Ughhhh. Another thing is how they totally screwed up Vampires. I’ve always liked Vampires and myths, but sparkling – WTF!
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I watched the first Twilight and found it kinda interesting except for the sparklyness. Now I fkn hate Twilight because ALL the girls around my age LOVE Edward or Jacob. It is so god damn annoying! >:(

This is mainly a response to Justice; first off, would like to say, yes, the first 3 harry potter books are only so-so… what makes THEM survive is their level of immersion and interesting characters (most notable fred and george in my opinion, but I digress)… HOWEVER, once you start getting into book 4, JK Rowling’s becomes a far better WRITER, and the PLOTS grow up. So book 1-3 is a 11 to 13 year olds perspective… not very exciting, although it has its moments. but once Harry gets to be 14, and *SPOILER ALERT FOR NON HARRY POTTER FANS* Voldemort comes back, then things become darker, more mature, more intriguing, etc etc. The books grow from there
and Because I KNOW some1 is going to argue this, that harry is the most boring character ever, yes, he is. Because its FROM his point of view (albeit in 3rd person). The character growth is not nobody to somebody, or neutral to good in alignment. We don’t see any of that from HIS perspective. Or we don’t see MUCH of it. Point is, the growth we do see is in CAPABILITY. Because, frankly, unless your a self examining person, who ACTUALLY notices how they change in life? Just my 2 cents…
And yes, her imagination for certain names was limited, but ur forgetting Gringotts, Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, Hogwarts… etc etc. Chmicha was right, its hard to keep making up names. I as a writer can attest to that. And finally, what WOULD you call the invisibility cloak, other than an invisibility cloak?
So. There’s your ‘earful’ hope its more rational than you were expecting.

I know there’s really no point to asking this, but, can’t someone love both HP and Twilight? Sure, neither will be confused for great literature, to stand the test of time. But both are a lot of fun.
I agree that HP comes into its own somewhere around the third book. And GoF is prolly my favorite of the 6 films. And not because of Pattinson. Twilight works for me because of the core romance. I sympathize with Bella’s mear-mindless determination to join Eds in eternity.
Personally, I get a chuckle out of all the hate. Stuff like Twilight + vuvuzelas. All the demotivators. I laugh. But I still enjoy the books. And am looking forward to reading #4, so no spoilers, please! ^.~

And y’know, I actually kind of like Pattinson better in Harry Potter than in Twilight. It’s the character. I’ve read all of the Harry Potter books and all but the ending of the last Twilight book. I love Harry Potter, but not enough that I stuff it up everyone’s asses wherever I go. I’m not a fan of Twilight(various spelling/grammar errors, etc.) but I don’t shove my opinion up fangirl’s asses either.

I am a big HP fan, the HP books are much better written and planned out than the twilight books. As you read the series (And I admitt the first three books are a little kid-ish) it does become darker, more intense, and more interesting.
As far as the movies go, the first movie was done by a different director than the one that is directing them now, obviously there is a big difference…
Twilight is just not that well written, it’s like a ten year old could have written that. Stephanie Meyer is just successful because, too many people are idiots. I don’t care if you like Twilight, but I had those fanatics……

I agree with Justice and Ivy. In HP, you could see the growth of the writing and the characters as the story progressed and the ending wasn’t an epic squick and failfest like it was in Twilight.
Meyer’s work reads like a teenage girl’s sexual fantasies that should have been edited properly to even bring it up to some kind of conclusion. The one reason why they’re successful is because a lot of women never outgrew that teenage angst and being in love with a guy who clearly is a contender for a restraining order. If you’re a 16 year old…I can see why you’d want to read this. But as an older woman…oh lord…

yes. twilight isnt a very good series. most people can agree on that. but you must think, that since it’s never going to be amazing, no matter what they do with it, but it still is so popular, there will always be ppl who will hate it. (another example is justin bieber) but HP is different, it is told from a guys point of view as he grows up. HE’S 11 WHEN IT ALL STARTS! i mean, it’s not supposed to be super mature in the first books, because you’re not at that age. and when you think about it, the whole series is layers upon layers of creativity. (i know imma dork, but i’ve been asked before so i know) the names she comes up with have meaning behind them. she creates this magical world…different from any other kind. most people when they read it, only get the first sketch, not the whole picture. if you’ve read the books more than once, you get the whole idea she’s made. and everything that goes along with it. and people shouldn’t EVER rate a book on what the movies like. yes daniel sounded like a girl the first 2 movies. becasue he was 11 when they started. it’s caled: he hadn’t gone through puberty. WELL IT’S ABOUT F**KING TIME!
I’ve made it a personal mission to hate Twilight with a passion for the rest of my natural life but after being forced to watch Eclipse by a friend’s gf I actually had a critic for it that wasn’t based off my loathing of the franchise. At times the action and what not would get somewhat decent really, but then it would always without fail be quickly demolished, trampled, and utterly raped by the actors poor acting. The lines while they made sense for whatever scene it was, sounded horrid and unconvincing. While the story is still a steaming pile of festering vampire glitter, could have been a lot better if the people playing the roles didn’t suck. As far as HP goes, love the books, great story that you can really get in to. Though the movies (not including 1 and 2) I don’t really care for. They strayed to far from the book in key detailing and what not. 1 and 2 stuck pretty close to the books. Plus original Dumbledore was way better then his replacement.
