Traditional Japanese care for their honor too much

I wonder how long it will be before some jerks decide to start a flame war over this…

I could go into a whole thing on cultural relativism, but I won’t.

I could also go into how U.S. Americans, despite being culturally diverse, are impressively intolerant of other cultures, traditions, and beliefs, but I won’t.

Furthermore, I could go into something known as Chronological Snobbery, which touches on the idea that people in the modern world have this unfounded belief that only modern ideas are correct, which of course is complete horse crap if you really take the time to think about it, but I won’t go into it.

You see, I am really not a fan of pointless arguments with people who refuse to listen to others, so I won’t go into it. However, I do want to place these ideas here to see how people decide to respond. Will you respond intelligently, modify your behavior in light of this information, or will you just argue for the pure sake of arguing? Your decision, really.

Oh, and yes, I do find this picture amusing, just for your information. The tradition of seppuku is very counter-effective when it comes to practice. I am a U.S. American, and to me it just seems ridiculous to do such a thing to achieve overall group improvement. But, for the record, when you take a look at it from their culture’s perspective, it does make sense.

Meh. I won’t go into it any more. Flame away, because I know it is going to happen.

Wow, major fail. The US is impresssively intolerant of other cultures? I would say a helluva lot more so than Japan itself, or most of Asia, and light-years beyond the Arab/Muslim world.

Nice point about “Chronological Snobbery.” Remember to invoke that whenever some America-basher starts howling about slavery and women’s rights and Manifest Destiny, or one of the other things such malcontents usually trot out.

Well, I have “listened” to you, and found you wanting. May you find a bit more light by “listening” to me or this will have been pointless.

      Ja, matashita…

I could go to the bathroom instead of wetting my pants, but I won’t.

I could also sing a song about the wonders of timeshares, but I won’t.

Subsequent to my song about timeshares which never happened, I could use letters and symbols to make a picture of a cat within a comment box, but I won’t.

Furthermore, I could insert a crayon into my ear whilst hopping on one leg and serenading a donkey named Wallace with the song “The Old Grey Mayor”, a process known colloquially as “what is that man doing”, but I won’t

    alright..Im gonna FLAME THE WAR!!

    Swords are so Inefficient!!

    GUNS RULE!!

lol…and let the hate replies begin!

  6. Madara says:

Reading this kinda makes me wish that our leaders in America would start incorporating this method :(

  7. Madara says:

Using a sword takes alot more skill in war than it took for a gun.
Example: A man who can defeat a horde of zombies is alot better off than a guy who hold them off with a gun.

    XD sorry had to.

  9. Yugan Dali says:

Let’s start a flame war! The samurai grip, two hands on the bottom of the sword, is the world’s stupidest way to hold a sword.

  10. Dan says:

Dont forget the seppeku failsafe. The dud standing right behind him. If he fails, his buddy lops his head off. Talk about BFF.

    • EchoNotEcho says:

Actually, the guy behind him is there to lop his head off if he does it RIGHT. The beheading was a reward for proper execution of the ritual.

Failure to properly cut or other outward signs of hesitation or unwillingness to expiate your shame meant the guy stood there and let you bleed out because you were unworthy of a quick death.

  11. IceColdTroll says:

IT’S KENNY BLANKENSHIP AND VIC ROMANO-O-O-O-O-O!

    Yaaaay. Samurai: First emos.

“Hoi! Ishitaka, you made F on your math test! You bring me dishonor!”

“I am sorry Father… I shall stab myself with this dagger to bring you honor. I wish not to shame you!” -Stab-

    Yeahhhh. Good job, Samurai!

  14. Iosif says:

Portal took out one of their most famous phrases out of this japanese samurai guys: “If at first you don’t succeed, you fail.”

  15. biggins says:

and that sir, is why the redneck’s head exploded!

  16. ... says:
