Epic Dad would have actually used a proper flotation device… not water wings that pop off and let small children drown.

    • Me says:

This is AWESOME dad – not EPIC dad. Epic dad is still on the beach trying to get the kid into the proper floatation device….

It is possible. I was riding 100 yd waves in Waikiki last week, w/ my 2 year old girl in front…my wife had our 4 year old on her board. We certainly didn’t look as stylish as “Awesome Dad”, but we were surfing none the less. Agree with “Me”…arm floaties are bad news!

I’m sorry but 100yd or 100 ft waves don’t exist at Waikiki, 20ft waves are hard to come by. I’m from Hawaii born and raised. If you’re referring to how far you traveled, it’s usually measured in time not distance as that matters more to surfers than how far you actually go.

But going back to the photo, it is possible to do something like this. A good enough surfer can navigate the board as long as it’s not fast breaking or too steep of a drop-in, as long as he’s got a hold on the kid, he should be fine.

This a real photo. Anyone who has surf experience knows that this is possible if the conditions are right. Many kids in Hawaii, California, Florida etc… have been on surfboards at this age.

Awesome Dad’s real name is Sion Milosky, and yes that’s his real daughter on the surfboard with him. Sadly, Awesome has died. He drowned at Mavericks this last week. He was a well known Hawaiian surfer. Here’s a tribute to Awesome Dad on Surfline:
