Yeah the enemy will be searching right where you’ve hidden, instead of the surrounding mountains with literally thousands of great hiding spots.

Somehow I doubt you average mad mullah with a gun had an advanced course in infantry tactics.
You’re right, your average Timmy Taliban just strapped a suicide vest to himself and turned into pink mist. However when you have a tube like thing sticking out of a f**king rocky patch you’re gonna get noticed. Not to mention counter sniper I’m pretty sure is covered in basic introduction to sniper. Believe it or not, not just western countries use snipers. Thanks for trying.
It’s not a pure desert — note the sparse plants here and there. A twig sticking out is plausible.
Plus, the camouflage is damn good, you’d have to look very closely to see something is amiss. And you don’t get to look closely in sniper warfare.
Also believe it or not, a long tube like object sticking out of a f**king mountain side will make your hiding spot that less obvious.
Hidden means not being seen, now make yourself hidden.

Try this, have a friend go out alone and position a length of pipe, painted to match the surroundings like this is, and stash it so it is similar to this photo. Then have them bring you to that location but still 800 yards from it and see how long it takes you to spot it. If you can spot it at all, even knowing that it is out there somewhere and that it is within 800 yards, I would be very surprised. Yet from 800 yards with the rifle in that picture you would be walking around all the while well within lethal range.
