Atheists can be as annoying as fundamentalist Christians, like the ones who can’t stand the word “God” being used in any context, but most of us don’t care what other people believe. We may get annoyed, but we won’t get preachy.
Thank the founders of our constitution for the right to say stupid things like that. You should actually read our constitution before you go mouthing off and embarrassing yourself…. I’m just saying
My comment is in the form of a question for a reason. I want to make sure we’re on the right page here. Take your own advice before passing it onto others. If they’re talking about what I think they’re talking about, then not only they have a false understanding, but you do as well. Since I have yet to receive a reply, I suppose I’ll never get the answer to my question.
“The American separation of church and state rests upon respect for the church; the [European anticlerical] separation, on indifference and hatred of the church, and of religion itself…. The constitution did not create a nation, nor its religion and institutions. It found them already existing, and was framed for the purpose of protecting them under a republican form of government, in a rule of the people, by the people, and for the people.” (first amendment)
“no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States” article 6
True, I can take a joke even though I’m Christian. Besides, this isn’t really anti-Christian anyway. This is probably one of the few unbiased jokes that could ever be made to be honest.
If your an atheist, who gives, you the Sun to warm yourself, the air you breathe, the sight to see, the miracle of a newborn child. Besides Hell is hot and you will be able to feel that also….stop and think, were not alone.
Atheists don’t believe these things are given. We believe they formed naturally over billions of years through complex forces humans work to understand through science. The sun formed through hydrogen gas coalescing into a sphere five billion years ago, then gravity forced the hydrogen to fuse into heavier elements, producing electromagnetic radiation in the process. Oxygen was produced in this matter within much older stars, and the current atmospheric mixture is the product of plant and animal respiration over billions of years. Our eyes perceive this through photosensitive cells connected via optic nerve to our brains. I don’t fear Hell. I won’t be bribed with Heaven. Never accuse me of not thinking.
There seems to be a sense of right & wrong in even the most calloused soul. When we fail to recognize the spark of God (or Source/Creator, etc.) in each person, we begin to make judgments that may lead to irrational & unloving acts. Compassion for our fellow man is the act of highest nobility.
definitely. I’m a Christian, and I totally agree that many people who claim to be Christian just don’t practice what they preach. And when they fly off the handle with the “submit to Jesus or you will burn in hell” stuff, that’s just not right. (Especially since the doctrine of hell isn’t even in the bible…) But I also find it very annoying when atheists do things like this: They ask me what religion/whatever I believe, I say Christian, and they’re like “WOW YOU’RE STUPID!!! ANYONE WHO BELIEVES IN GOD AND CREATION IS UNREASONABLE AND RIDICULOUS IN THEIR FANTASY THOUGHTS SO BELIEVE WHAT I BELIEVE OR YOU HAVE NO SORT OF INTELLIGENCE WHATSOEVER!!!” Er, yeah, sure, whatever man. That sounds just as preachy (or angry, whatever) as the religious sometimes are, if not more so.
“(Especially since the doctrine of hell isn’t even in the bible…)”
-The word “Bible” isn’t in there either. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or the concept is false.
Good, you made the connection of “Bible” to “Scripture.” As such, there should be no dismissal of the doctrine of hell just because it doesn’t say “hell” specifically. It has relations just like Bible and Scripture to each other do such as “the lake of fire” or “eternal flames” or “damnation” etc.
There is a mention of hell, if not by the name “hell” but there is also no mention of demons or the devil being in charge, or the levels/rings of hell-in fact the only real mention of hell is the “eternal flames” that you just mentioned. The “doctrine” of hell that is often used today was first created by Dante in his Divine Comedy, not by any religious leader. According to the Bible the demons and the devil himself were sent there for punishment, not to lord over it. I am an atheist and I know this. I am often surprised by the fact that I, having never been Christian, often know more about Christianity than the people telling me to convert.
“There is a mention of hell, if not by the name “hell” but there is also no mention of demons”
-You seem to agree with me, but then you seem to have disregarded it when stating the second part of this sentence. I’ll explain, “There is mention of hell, if not by the name “hell” (in other words, “you’re right that it technically mentions “hell” without saying the words) but there is also no mention of demons (in other words, “But it doesn’t say demons so they don’t exist)” Umm? Explain please? Because I don’t get how you can agree and disagree with me in the same sentence.
“or the devil being in charge”
-Satan, known as Lucifer from his angelic/cherubim status, was a very highly created angel (Ezekiel 28:12-14, John 12:31, Isaiah 14:12). His pride got the best of him and he thought himself deserving of God’s throne. This pride led to his downfall (or just, his “fall”). This and other verses indicate his status as dominant leader of hell (Revelation 12:3, 4, 9).
“or the levels/rings of hell”
-I’m not sure entirely what to think about this topic. Considering that the specific mentioning of the “levels” of hell came from “Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri (as I see you’ve mentioned and may be familiar with), I wouldn’t really consider it, but it may have its merits because in Revelation 20:11-15 says people will be judged according to what they had done. However, it also states that all the people at judgment are thrown into the lake of fire in the same verses. So it could give us more light on exactly what all of “judgment” entails, but as for the levels of hell, there’s nothing directly biblical to defend the idea other than those verses. They could be false just as much as they can be true, but I wouldn’t be dogmatic on it.
“in fact the only real mention of hell is the “eternal flames” that you just mentioned”
-And the lake of fire, and damnation, as I said before.
“The “doctrine” of hell that is often used today was first created by Dante in his Divine Comedy, not by any religious leader. ”
-It doesn’t really matter where its origins came from, but what the focus of the subject is. The use of fire today does not secretly relate to the first fire ever made (unless the focus happens to be the origin). The only relation is that its fire, which tells us nothing.
“According to the Bible the demons and the devil himself were sent there for punishment, not to lord over it”
-I’m curious to know which verse(s) you got this from as I only recall that Lucifer fell from heaven, not necessarily that he descended to hell or “into the lake of fire” (Revelation). That’s yet to come.
“I am an atheist and I know this”
-And I’m a Christian, and I know these things as well. But, just like you, I don’t know everything. That’s why I enjoy learning what I don’t know, and you know the realization I come to that gets more clear with each new thing I learn? The more I know, the more I realize what I don’t know. So I try to make everything a learning experience because that’s just my personality. I could go for hours talking with someone, but I’m babbling here. Moving on.
“I am often surprised by the fact that I, having never been Christian, often know more about Christianity than the people telling me to convert.”
-Yes its quite surprising. There’s becoming more and more hypocrites and its giving true Christians a bad name (I suppose this validates the idea of “the few ruin it for the many”). Living anti-biblical principles to the max but still claiming to be religious. I’m thankful that the thought occurred to me to research it. Once I did, the first thing going through my mind was, “They say you learn something new every day, but everything I’m reading blows that out of the water!” I must’ve learned at least 50 new concepts (not including branched off attributes of those concepts) that day. Of course, no one is perfect and I live by the philosophy of “Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see” (which is, of course, exaggerated a bit to understand the full meaning), and I check everything with other sources as well as the other side (which is another reason I do these discussions/debates).
Its nothing like that, and you know it. So what, something on a website offends you. You dont see me getting all worked up over trolls who attack atheists.
listen pall, being gay or jewish aint a choice… you’re born like that.
worshipping a god is really retarded, Gods were made up in the time they weren’t able to explain the rain or sunshine, still believing in god in the present is just closing your eyes for the truth.
While you’re born into Judiasm I guess you could always convert. As for gay or ANY sexuality for that matter, not a choice. Try and argue with me if you want, but I actually know what I’m talking about. Gay and didn’t choose!
Look, I don’t care what you believe, atheist or otherwise, but don’t fly off the handle and discount every other belief just because you believe something different. We Christians have many reasons for believing what we do, just like you may. Saying everyone is wrong but you is just ignorant.
Jews have a God too….? Although I agree 100%. I feel targeted here, I did nothing wrong. Don’t hate on his fan club just because a few of us go too far.
No, i am most certainly not trolling. If this post said “I can’t stand gays/jews” and had another poster around it agreeing, it would be offensive. I don’t mind jokes about christians, but saying you can’t stand them is an entirely different manner.
Wow i thought the US was the center of the world and all, but even i wouldn’t go as far as to say that it is the entire world… Mr. Bush and Mr. Magically, i applaud your patriotic enthusiasm! USA!…USA!
Oh, yes. Obviously with Egypt and the middle east in turmoil, the Vatican hiding priests all over the world, and the French being all uppity, that means that the US is the root of all evil. Grow up and get a clue.
What if they don’t want to be saved by YOUR god? There are several to choose from after all, nothing special or new about yours, just the length of the fanbase. A fanbase forced on billions of people on pain of death for hundreds of years. Yeah, that’s some god you got there. Pardon the rest of us while we pass, thank you.
you are just one more generalizing moron. I am sure there are dictatorships out there too with no religious cause, but all religions are CLEARLY in cahoots with the jihaad.
They’re reffering to the crusades you imbicile.. You know, when the cathlic church hired armies and massacred millions of non-catholics simply because they didn’t believe what they believed, and they thought they were doing the ‘will of the Lord’?
Wasn’t making a refference to the muslim extremists.
Please stop saying crusade. Every time somebody says that a chill goes through every Middle Easterner on the planet.
However, as a Middle Eastern Catholic, don’t blame the Crusades on Catholicism. It was politics, pure and simple. When the German/Italian/French/English/everybody else in Europe invaded into the Middle East, they sacked Constantinople, Byblos, Beirut, etc, etc, and these were all Catholic cities. In fact, nearly all of Greece, most of Turkey at the time, and Lebanon (even to this day) were primarily Orthodox Catholic or Eastern Catholic. They were indiscriminate in who they killed as long as they could gobble up the wealth and political power in the area.
Don’t blame all Christians because a man who was called Pope, who was politically a king, started a war on “Muslims” and said that God told him to.
well it WAS catholic i’m afraid; most of all the Pope (debate on wether the pope speaks for catholics starts… now!)
tried to re-attach the byzantine orthodox church to the catholic by sending troops to aid “the jerusalemites” which were really the leftovers of a byzantine-greek population, but true enough it was politics, but then you can argue if ANYONE can ever speak for a religion
What, opposed to the rather shady and unpleasant historical figures that Americans or Europeans revere? Most historical figures are downright criminals but people love them just the same.
Are there any historical figures that American society revers that is personally responsible for the deaths of up to 70 million Americans? And do any of these historical figures have a personality cult entirely pervasive in American society today? How about Europe?
My point being, if we had a past leader like that, we would see him as the worst president in history, not as a freaking god or something.
Well…..I don’t know about killing 70 million of their own men, but I guess when you count up the death tolls American Presidents have killed more than 70 million people in order countries, but of-course that doesn’t count because America is all powerful and everyone in the world should worship them and their brainwashed society.
We’re a democracy, remember? If we ever had a president like that, he was either the vice when the pres died or more than half the country DID see him as a god.
Wel, if we had done as MacArthur proposed and marched from Berlin to Vladivostok, “red communism” wouldn’t have been a problem. Realistically, it would have cost millions of lives, but it would have saved a hundred years in fallout, hatred, and the looming threat of a third global war.
You mean besides the rampant corruption, pollution, oppression, etc.? You mean besides the Tibet fiasco?
You mean besides the melamine in baby formula, the lead in paint on children’s toys, etc?
Oh, you can’t forget the over population and forcing families to NOT have more than 1 child, if they do they could be punished. Even though they have more than enough space in the country for everyone.
They give great incentives for families to move into the big cities, so the government can regulate them more efficiently, but then the cities become rediculously over-populated, while the majority of the country is still undeveloped land, where there is more than enough room for the entire population of the country.
kinda like justin bieber? however i dont find his fan club to be nearly as annoying as annoying as the people that “hate” him. (i think all those people that constantly post how much they dislike justin bieber actually have a secret crush)
Well, as long as they’re productive members, God’s fan club get VIP passes to the party He’s hosting (which I hear is gonna RULE, btw). You might still get in if you’re not a member, but it’s best not to be left out, because apparently the party Satan’s trying to throw together is going to be really lame. Like, REALLY lame.
That party is indeed a lie. I hold it from good source that the real place is the Spirit world which in you partake to a Great Hunting in the stars. (Makes as much sense as the Christian religion : little.)
So, you are a believer in bronze age fairy tales which have no supporting evidence and couldn’t resist? Well, that is not surprising as people like you want to make everything you can’t resist illegal so you won’t be tempted.
He doesn’t need to. He says that it’s a fairy tale i.e. the characters and events are not real. Christians say they are. Christians have the burden of the proof because they claimed the existence of God in the first place. Until you don’t prove what you claim, he doesn’t have to, either.
He claims the existence of a fairy tale; I look forward to seeing his proof of it.
I am frequently amused at the atheists on the Net who claim “you guys have to prove your side, we don’t have to prove our side!” They reveal the weakness of their side, but cannot follow this through to the logical conclusion… atheism is an unsupported faith, and does not deserve their pretense of logical superiority.
You’re doing the same thing dipwad. And all religion has been for centuries. BTW Athiests have science and reason on their side. THE EARTH IS NOT 6,000 YEARS OLD!
I see the personal insults have started. If you don’t have an argument, let alone proof, they are never far away.
I never said the universe is only 6,000 years old.
As far as the wiki page… the notion that a teapot that can’t be seen somehow equates to the whole universe which in great extent can, is rather odd. The universe exists, it is clearly detectable, so claiming our side has no proof, simply does not measure up as “logical”.
I have the universe as proof of a Creator. I am still waiting for your proof of an Emptiness that somehow creates things just as well as if there were a God.
So… what grade did you drop out? Or was your education faith-based? I’m not an atheist, but I’m not religious, and all I can say is… truly spoken like someone who doesn’t understand the process of logic.
It’s virtually impossible to prove a negative. (This is high school stuff.) Typically, the only evidence of a negative is the absence of proof of the positive. Scientists and philosophers have agreed on this for centuries.
If you have a problem with this demotivational, I suggest you check out the thumbs up versus thumbs down. The rest of us are crazy f***ing sick of mouths like you.
“Typically, the only evidence of a negative is the absence of proof of the positive. Scientists and philosophers have agreed on this for centuries.”
-Scientists typically rule out an intelligence (i.e. God) and only accept something naturalistic, so of course they’re going to find an absence. That’s the implicit presupposition they take.
“If you have a problem with this demotivational, I suggest you check out the thumbs up versus thumbs down.”
-Not everything is dependent on majority opinion. If it were, then geocentric orbit and heavy objects falling faster than smaller objects would be true.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Christianity about worshiping God UNCONDITIONALLY – i.e. not expecting a reward for doing it? Aren’t Christians supposed to practice this religion for the sole reason that they love God, and not because they expect a “VIP pass” to heaven and/or they are afraid of being punished and going to hell?
Hey where I live, city officials still ask for God’s guidance in a prayer when they do their job.
The massive frauds and corruption scandal going on tells me God isn’t guiding very well so we need laws to pull those criminals’ hands away so they stop hurting and stealing.
Sorry God, apparently you’re not doing your job. You’re fired.
naw, it’s impossible for people to do ANYTHING unconditionally. No matter how hard we try, we always have a self-centered motive. its more about God loving humans unconditionally even if said human is a troll.
The problem is that “God’s fan club” wants everyone to come to the party, whether they believe and/or want want to or not. The fan club wants to force everyone to live according to their god’s rules, apparently because the fan club’s faith and will power are so low they can not resist temptation.
For the ones annoying you at home…. a quick “f%*k off” and slamming the door in their face usually works. The look on their face when you tell them to “f%*k off” is usually priceless. I did this to a pair of Johovah’s Witnesses once…. it really brightened up my day.
For the God-botherers handing you leaflets in the street…. take the leaflet, then right in front of them, do the actions of wiping your ass with it. Again, the look on their faces is usually priceless
Actually, I believe in a very exclusive party. Not everyone’s gonna make it. You’ll get issued an invite (probably many times, and that’s what you find annoying) but you don’t have to take it up. We just want to make sure that you don’t miss your opportunity. You never know, you might change your mind and you’ll be sad that no-one issued you that last minute invite!
*throws the invite book in the recycle bin* No thanks. My ancestors had a different invitation when some other party was more fashionable. Enjoy your imaginary friends.
How does Rover’s post prove in any way that he/she is an extremist Atheist? Moreover, it’s quite possible that he/she isn’t even an Atheist, given the fact that he/she admits that there is a God, something that Atheists don’t agree with
You only say that because they won’t let you crush their freedoms and bow down to your false god. I am sure you would be very christian and burn them at the stake in the name of your god if you could.
Lets face it the extremities of any cult, religion, fanbase etc etc are annoying. I was truly siding with atheists until I saw a clip of an American one over here. If that was anything to go by no wonder everyone complains about them — also little wonder that christians give them little notice. We have far fewer extremists in England so get a little confused, and more infuriated, when the truly extreme ones appear (for example the idiot last year who wanted to burn the koran).
Actually he wanted to burn the Koran because of 9/11. Even though it was an extremist muslim group that did it… not all muslims. He was actually not Atheist, he was an extreme baptist or christian or somthing..
Atheism, the belief that there is no god, lacks only the aspect of having a ‘holy’ entity.
It is most certainly “a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of life and the universe”
except when was the last time some one went out of their way to tell you not to collect stamps?
and once they became an “organized Athiest Club” they become what they denounce… yes the Individual may well ‘not collect stamps” but when they get together the club becomes the Hobby.. whether they are ‘not collecting stamps” or ‘Not kniitting cat clothes’ or ‘Not going to Flea Markets’
When did Atheists create an “organised club”?
The only thing Atheists have in common is the belief that there is no God – that’s it! They no not share the same morals, ideas, principles etc (well, some of them might, but that is purely coincidental).
If believing there is no God is a religion, then so is believing that aliens/ghosts/the flying Spaghetti Monster exist.
I think you get way too much preachy with your organized cult saying there is no Invisible Pink Unicorn. Those saying there is no Invisible Pink Unicorn sure have a very strong set of belief that it does not exist! (See what I did there? Atheism isn’t a set of belief.)
Please list all the people who go out of their way to tell you to not believe in a god. Next, list all the people who go out of your way to tell you to believe in their particular god by, among other things (these are all things I have personally experienced):
lining the road and shouting bible verses, etcat people driving cars
standing on a box with a megaphone yelling at people for sinning
standing outside establishments they do not agree with and harassing the customers.
blowing up buildings that house establishments they do not agree with
indoctrinating children
If there is an “organized Atheist Club” who is the leader? Who sets the rules? Where do atheists meet and how often? What is the name of the club? Being an atheist, I would really like to know.
Atheists denounce belief without evidence. Please explain how atheists would become what they denounce if they were to form a “club” or movement.
And here one could clearly state a very large difference between theists and atheists… while theists have a very high propensity to congregate in large numbers and create “clubs”, to put it simply in your own words, getting atheists together has been compared to herding cats. The atheist (myself being one) has a tendency towards individuality and disdain for mass congregation.
There are very few straight-up “organized Atheist Clubs”, as you bluntly stated, and those that do exist aren’t very organized at all. Though I can see the logic behind your reasoning (having a club for NOT doing something is awfully ridiculous), it has very little ground on real life.
Atheism could hardly be considered parallel to a “not collecting stamps club”, simply because it’s not a simple absence of something, rather, it’s taking that something (organized belief in a god) and replacing it with belief in science and logic. If those terms are true and understandable, your argument is nullified.
There probably would be non-stamp-collectors clubs if stamp collectors went around telling everyone else that they would be tortured forever. Jus’ sayin’…
Nope. DevAd is pretty much right–though you might call it more of a philosphy rather than a religion, the core of which is *not* believing there is some Supreme Imaginary Friend for one to blame things on.
That is agnosticism (might need a spellcheck on that).
Atheists doesn’t believe in anything, including the Big bang theory (yes the theory about how universe was created, not the sit-com).
Wait, what about us, physical theorists who understand the whole meaning of the M theory, where the Universe (sorry, OUR universe) is just the result of quantum mechanics, just as like other 10^500 different (possibilities of) universes with different physical laws AND dimensions? As like as you can believe in you being electrocuted through Maxwell’s equations without believing in God (he did though), you can believe in the Big Bang without believeing in any mythic entity.
Apart from that, you must misunderstood the concept of the “beggining” of the universe. There isn’t any “beggining” in the strictest meaning of the word, because, at the “earliest” “moments” of the Big Bang, THERE WASN’T TIME.
Atheism is the lack of belief there is a god. Atheists do not believe because there is no evidence to support belief while there is a lot of evidence to support non-belief.
Now, stop lying to frame the discussion in terms favorable to yourself.
Why don’t you believe in the 2,700+ other gods out there, many of whom were worshiped long before your god was ever was?
Many religions don’t say man is inherently evil and will have disastrously negative consequences to their actions. That’s why the Old Testament is a book man wouldn’t write if he could, nor could write if he would.
Other religions claim man is inherently good and there’s no really ugly things about man. It’s interesting because even though it shows man in the most negative light whereas others say man is good “oo awe,” it’s still one of the most followed religions today.
You’ve got it completely backwards, Atheism can either be described as “The dis-belief in the existence of Deity’s.” OR “The belief that deity’s DON’T exist”. (There is a difference.) That’s all atheism is, nothing else. Just because I’m an atheist, does NOT mean I believe in the big bang theory. I don’t believe in any form of creation. I don’t care about the origin of the universe. It’s clearly beyond our understanding, and we may never know for sure exactly how everything came into existence.
Atheism is effectively the belief in nothing. I chose to abstain from believing in any set of beliefs, gods or religions, therefore I am atheist. You could provide well-reasoned arguments for your religion until you’re blue in the face, but as long as there are other religions out there, and no solid proof that EITHER is true, then I will always choose atheism. It’s the only “belief” that makes any f**king sense whatsoever.
Do you belive there is no Invisible Pink Unicorn? Or that mountains do not fly on their own on the back of Invisible Pink Unicorns? Why belive stuff without any decent evidence?
Couldn’t agree more. Especially when they try to get sneaky about it. You seem like a really together, clever person. You probably are generally happy with the way things are going, but there is a nagging feeling that there is something lacking. Something more that you could be doing to improve yourself. I can help you. Contact me to organise a completely free, no strings attached personality test. This audit of your psyche will totally open up your mind to a world of personal improvement possibilities. Go on!! What have you got to lose?
If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
We’d see the day when nobody died.
I’m not really a fan of Nickelback, but this is a good message.
If anyone cares to hear more, just reply to this comment.
Just shows God gives people plenty of time to change if you ask me. That’s not punishment, that’s grace. Also, they may be exercising free will, but you make it sound like God works in the sense of, “Well, they chose wrong, down to hell you go for not agreeing with me!” That’s not how it is. Your choices reflect the consequences. If you want to choose a life of wrong, evil, death, then that’s what you’ll get. It’s not so much as “punishment” as it is “reaping what you’ve sewn.”
Yes, but that doesn’t dictate their actions. I know my cousin likes jelly sandwiches. If I see him eyeballing the jelly in the fridge, I know what he wants. Sure enough, he asks someone to make him a jelly sandwich since he’s about 6. Did I make him ask? No.
Also, you have to consider the fact that God intervenes for those reasons. Knowing allows God to help. It’s how he’s able to do the things he does. If he wasn’t intervening then you would have a great point.
And another ahmen to that. The worst thing that ever happened to religion was that it organized…primarily *because* more people are worshiping the *church* than anything else…
Considering God is capitalized it’s proof that they are talking about the Abrahamic God. What religions other than Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have a god named God?
“God” is not a name, nitwit. It’s a term of reference and a title e.g. Dieu, Gott, Dios, Бог, 신, Allah, Θεός, etc. They are all different words used to describe the Jewish deity, YHVH/Jehovah/Yahweh i.e. the Tetragrammaton.
Well, just a few hundreds of years ago, if person X set person Y on fire, person X would be punished for his crime. However, when the Church officials burned people alive, it was totally fine.
Don’t forget such funny things like the prohibition of science, silent agreement to Slavery and the Holocaust, exorcism (which pretty much boils down to torture), destroying cultural heritage and whole cultures in the name of the one true God (crusades, missionaries f.e.), covering up sexual assault and rape on children…
I’m not a religious nutjob (in fact I’m not religious at all) and that’s absolutely true. For one thing, if there’s no God, then God didn’t do that crap, huh?
There are plenty of people who are religious and who are fine. And there are plenty of people who aren’t religious and who aren’t fine. (Can’t you think of any godless regimes that did things this bad and then some? I can think of several.)
It all boils down to the same thing: Give crazy humans any excuse they can get others to believe, and they’ll run with it. Religion, so obvious because it basically capitalizes on our greatest common fear – death, is the most obvious, most used, and most successful.
But let’s not pretend it’s the root of all evil. That award goes to human nature.
“Give crazy humans any excuse they can get others to believe, and they’ll run with it. Religion, so obvious because it basically capitalizes on our greatest common fear – death, is the most obvious, most used, and most successful.”
-The Old Testament of the Bible is far from pleasing if you take time to read it through (which, I wont lie, is rather difficult from Genesis to Malachi). All, if not most, religions have some life after death factor, but only the Bible shows man for what he is as being inherently evil whereas other religions talk about how nice and inherently good man is. The Old Testament is a book man wouldn’t write if he could nor could write if he would. With all this in mind, basically showing man in the worst light, it’s still one of the top followed religions today (Number 1 if I’m not mistaken, followed by Islam [which is highly followed primarily due to the sword] and then Secularism).
“his Fan Club” — which one? There are several hundred, all of which claim to be the one-and-only Official Fan Club… and most members of most of them are perfectly acceptable people, just like most atheists are nice despite their religious extremism.
The problem isn’t religion, or a particular religion, it’s an overzealous approach to religion, usually combined with overstrict textual interpretation and very low self-esteem. That’s why a few members of every religion (yes, including atheism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Shinto, and the Dionysian mystery cults) are intolerable sphincters, while most of their fellows are simply “the guy next door.”
Yeah, the problem isn’t religion, its when people decide to let other people do their thinking for them. Lets obey the religious leader because he is….old and knows what happens after death even though he hasn’t died yet, and claims to have all the answers. Thats just downright irresponsible, to just do what you’re told without bothering to think.
Religions are just organizations that can be just as corrupt as anything else man made, governments etc. I
Well, your beliefs dictate your views in life, and those views dictate your actions (e.g. if someone believes donuts are gods, then they view donuts as superior and possibly to be respected which will determine how they act towards donuts), so it’s understandable that anyone who believes something to be true, depending on the extent to which they believe, would act a certain way. I would indeed say there’s a limit though that people should control. For example, I’m against abortion, but I’m not going to go out and find someone who’s for it and yell at them. If someone comes up to me and we get on the topic then I wouldn’t mind discussing it, but that should be the limit. Searching for the problem isn’t the answer.
No, the problem is religion, plain and simple. Without religion, you don’t get “an overzealous approach to religion”, therefore the rest of your post is moot.
Really? You’re gonna group all of the monotheistic believers into one fan club? Some religious people are very rude and in your face, but the majority of Christians are very polite and don’t bring up religion unless someone expresses interest. There are lots of extremists (suicide bombers, that crazy church that burned Qurans, Jehovah Witnesses, etc.) but I would say that the majority of God believing people are really nice. I honestly find more of a problem with atheists. Almost every atheist I’ve ever met was very opinionated and rude. They were very easily offended and got upset if you even brought up something barely resembling religion.
At least, this is how I perceive it through my own experiences….just sayin…
Im Christian and im not that fanatic of God like the people i’ve seen, trust me, its worse.
But at least are others like me that cares and believes in God but never want to tell other people, selfish maybe. A relief to people everywhere, yes
Ugly syllogism.
And, what about the Inquisition, or the Salem witch trials, all very Christian people? Or the jihad warriors? All of them are REALLY religious people.
Don´t overgeneralize. Go learn some Aristotelian logic.
So, here is what I believe: If you do not believe, you are going to Hell. Now, if I don’t evangelize, how much must I hate you? If I know you don’t believe, and I don’t do anything, I must seriously hate that person. It’s responsibility.
This poster should have it’s comments deleted just because of the damn religious war. Who cares, live and let live. He’s an atheist, he’s a Catholic, he’s a Muslim, who cares? People are different. Get over it. You’d think after bickering for years you guys would learn to co-exist peacefully. There is no proof, that’s why it’s called faith. It works for and against, cause there is no right answer. It isn’t math. It’s basically opinion. Your opinion can’t be more right than mine by the principles of an opinion. Even a mass believed opinion. So let it go. No one EVER wins these fights, they just keep going.
I’m a Buddhist who was flooded with death threats after a Cathoilic female asked me my religion in class. I said Buddhist. She started screaming at me and saying that god would have me strung up by my throat in hell for all eternity for turning to the “pile of s**t” religion called Buddhism. I have absolutely no problem with people who see God or Jesus as their leader, but please… Don’t push it on everyone else. Or at least don’t be violent about it.
Can we all just agree that there are extreme atheists, Christians, Muslims, etc. out there and that extremists are generally a bad thing? We all get annoyed by people who shove ANY idea down our throat! (I know good fans of Twilight and I know bad fans of Twilight – who like to scream and talk about it and don’t care that you don’t like it.)
My ENTIRE family is christian, and i’m an agnostic atheist.
I’ve met the ‘evangelical christians’, the zealots, etc., and they aren’t even a quarter as annoying as people like you.
That’s right, i’m an atheist who is annoyed more by atheists than by christians.
It also doesn’t help that of the people i’ve met, the ‘theists’ were generally about 20 points higher on the IQ ladder than the atheists.
On behalf of the few Christians who are becoming sick to their stomachs reading all the terrible comments about the things Christians have done to others who do not believe as they do: screaming, death threats, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, the Crusades, the rock throwing, the “you’ll burn in hell comments”….
I am truly sorry. I know that list is an awful long one, and trying to forgive and forget that list will be quite impossible, I just ask that you keep your faith in whatever you want, and remember that not all people who believe the Christian viewpoint are hopeless basket cases, nutjobs, and extremists.
And Biscuit, my dear, you get a hug and an extra apology.
Religion tends to become a force for control and corruption. After all, it was the religious leaders who were the ones responsible for having Jesus crucified.
To those who agree with this sentiment I say: don’t let jerks who claim to be speaking for God prevent you from knowing Him.
If you’re right and your God’s like that, I’m pretty sure that’s where I’d rather be. I’d rather burn free than spend my eternity kissing the feet of a tyrant.
Many people have a very warped understanding of hell. It’s not cracking whips and pushing mining carts around as a slave, it’s more of a self-torment by your own sins every second without letting up for all eternity. Prison is heaven in comparison to hell. You may be quarantined in a similar way, but prison would be far better.
Lucifer doesn’t care if you bow to him in hell. You’re already doing it by rejecting God and what he’s offered. He’s just attacking us because we’re made in God’s image. He hates God but he can’t do anything about it since he’s outmatched, so he attacks the next best thing by trying to take man away from his creator. Going back to the prison analogy, the warden doesn’t necessarily care about you bowing to him or kissing his feet so long as you’re locked up. The only difference is, with Lucifer being the warden, he’s the one trying to get you into prison rather than worry about keeping you there.
All choices have consequences. Good choices have good consequences and bad choices have bad consequences. The only reason people are quarantined in hell is because they chose it. It’s not so much punishment as much as it is reaping what you’ve sewn. If you choose your sins over forgiveness of them, then ok, you can keep your sins, and those sins will be used to attack you for all eternity. Enjoy. If you want to get rid of them because you don’t want that life, then ok, Christ will take them off your hands in a flash. That’s the best part. It’s free! Everyone’s favorite word! Going back, once more, to the prison analogy, its as if you’re about to be condemned as you’re pleading your case in court and you’ve got 2 options. Go to prison, or pay a fine and be let go. You don’t have the money for the fine so it looks like prison, but the judge comes down and holds out the money to you. You can take it, or dismiss it. Its entirely your choice.
Choose wisely, because you’re going to be dead a lot longer than you’re going to be alive.
Some of you have valid points, others sound like complete morons. I’m atheist and I truly believe that christianity is nothing more than one more idiotic religion that men made up to instill fear in the gullible. There are no facts whatsoever to show that god is a real entity, and I am a woman of facts. It is beyond me that somebody can believe that there is some man in the sky that created all the is and has the power to judge every person that walks the earth. There are documented scriptures dating up to a thousand years before Christ that have the exact same story line. Born to a virgin on the 25th of December, 12 deciples, crucified and named the savior, and resurrected three days later. Christs story is nothing more than a rip off of another bulls**t religion. Use your brains people, use some sort of logic and stop being stuck in a box where yure afraid to live this life to the fullest because you’re so worried about what’s going to happen to you after you’re dead.
This is one heck of an argument going on here! (An argument is more like a debate, not a quarrel.) I just wish I could believe it’s worth the effort to voice my opinion here, without the people who disagree with me to simply shrug off my statements. I applaud everyone’s efforts (everyone as in both sides of the controversy), but don’t think any progress will be made here.
This is exactly wat the poster was saying. The fan club is annoying. people rather sit online and argue about god or lack there of instead of just enjoying the joke. laugh, its funny.
http://xkcd.com/774/
Atheists can be as annoying as fundamentalist Christians, like the ones who can’t stand the word “God” being used in any context, but most of us don’t care what other people believe. We may get annoyed, but we won’t get preachy.
AMEN!
that is sort of preachy, aside from that are you probably right
Erik, I award you 100 internets.
I award him fifty points to his respective Hogwarts house.
Dude, have a muffin. On the house.
this should be in an episode of house
Imma let you finish, but I deserve those internets.
Thank you
o you mean the atheists who want to uphold the constitution by keeping God out of government? yeah, they are pretty annoying.
Don’t you mean the government out of the church?
Thank the founders of our constitution for the right to say stupid things like that. You should actually read our constitution before you go mouthing off and embarrassing yourself…. I’m just saying
My comment is in the form of a question for a reason. I want to make sure we’re on the right page here. Take your own advice before passing it onto others. If they’re talking about what I think they’re talking about, then not only they have a false understanding, but you do as well. Since I have yet to receive a reply, I suppose I’ll never get the answer to my question.
God bless.
Wtf? That is the most convoluted piece of crap I have ever read.
Bananas are purple with a black hole full of rhinoceroses.
I can throw words together in a sentence too. It doesn’t make it true though does it?
maybe you should read, it basically says that the government cannot tax religious institutions, because taxation can be used to control them.
But who determines what is and is not a religion i wonder?
separation of church and state is pretty damn vital if you think about it.
Pick your battles. I oppose intelligent design and creationism in school, along with prayer, but printing “in God we trust” on coins… I’ll live.
Then why do the Americans end (most) swear-ins with “…so help me god”?
It’s like “The Honorable” before a judge’s name. it doesn’t actually mean anything.
That is not in the constitution ANYWHERE, so maybe next time you are gonna get preachy at least do a fact check.
True, I can take a joke even though I’m Christian. Besides, this isn’t really anti-Christian anyway. This is probably one of the few unbiased jokes that could ever be made to be honest.
All that is required for evil to prevail, is for good men to do nothing.
Projection, much?
*Hugs* You get cookies!
he just specifically said that you aren’t nescissarily evil, read that again and try using that squashy thing in your skull.
i am sure you meant to say necessary…
and i am sure i meant to say necessarily…
displeasedgrammarnazi… now displeased with himself ^^
Hell Yeah!
do you give athiests reason to annoy us?
There seems to be a sense of right & wrong in even the most calloused soul. When we fail to recognize the spark of God (or Source/Creator, etc.) in each person, we begin to make judgments that may lead to irrational & unloving acts. Compassion for our fellow man is the act of highest nobility.
AMEN TO THAT!!!
Actually that is sort of preachy, but the thought’s about right.
Or baptists who think that 18th century deists who used the word God as meaning nature really meant their “personal savior”.
That’s because they use “Scripture” instead of “bible”. The hell doctrine was just never there.
God bless.
God bless.
Too long
Didn’t read
It wasn’t meant for you. If it’s too long to read and doesn’t concern you then there’s no reason to comment on it.
God bless.
Do be silly. Most atheists don’t care what other people believe. They just don´t believe such thing like “God”.
So, if this were some anti-gay or anti-jew “demotivational”, it would get posted too, right? Nah, that’d be offensive.
Its nothing like that, and you know it. So what, something on a website offends you. You dont see me getting all worked up over trolls who attack atheists.
Don’t get worked up “Get Saved” Accept Christ as your Savior.
I rolled a natural twenty and made an automatic save all by myself! I don’t need Jesus, i have my lucky D20
listen pall, being gay or jewish aint a choice… you’re born like that.
worshipping a god is really retarded, Gods were made up in the time they weren’t able to explain the rain or sunshine, still believing in god in the present is just closing your eyes for the truth.
ps: if god made everything then he made this pic.
just fyi, being gay or jew CAN be a choice. and the rest of that statement is just ludicrous in reasoning
While you’re born into Judiasm I guess you could always convert. As for gay or ANY sexuality for that matter, not a choice. Try and argue with me if you want, but I actually know what I’m talking about. Gay and didn’t choose!
*sigh* another one of these people, eh?
Look, I don’t care what you believe, atheist or otherwise, but don’t fly off the handle and discount every other belief just because you believe something different. We Christians have many reasons for believing what we do, just like you may. Saying everyone is wrong but you is just ignorant.
Jews have a God too….? Although I agree 100%. I feel targeted here, I did nothing wrong. Don’t hate on his fan club just because a few of us go too far.
How far is etenity with him.
FROM EVERLASTING TO EVERLASTING. AS FAR AS EAST IS FROM THE WEST.
actually, I’ve seen about two dozen jew related posts on this site, and I’ve lost count on the lesbian and “all too friendly boys” pics.
Nope, Jews and Gays are mentioned(lol mentioned) all the time, You’re just a troll, and this is all the food you’re getting, so be satisfied!
No, i am most certainly not trolling. If this post said “I can’t stand gays/jews” and had another poster around it agreeing, it would be offensive. I don’t mind jokes about christians, but saying you can’t stand them is an entirely different manner.
Same thing’s with twilight. You just don’t care until you meet the fans.
Agreed. There is a lot of stupidity in this world.
Agreed. There is a lot of stupidity in the US.
FIXED!
no. the whole world is stupid. look at china for instance.
it’s actually mostly the US.
The entirety of the Non Bhudist/Hindu/judite/animus world!
Death of innocents never proves anything.
Yes it does. Death of innocents proves that God won’t save them. So, basically, might does in fact make right.
You seriously don’t know what God means by “saving them”.
AMEN!
No, just that might makes murder.
What if they don’t want to be saved by YOUR god? There are several to choose from after all, nothing special or new about yours, just the length of the fanbase. A fanbase forced on billions of people on pain of death for hundreds of years. Yeah, that’s some god you got there. Pardon the rest of us while we pass, thank you.
you’re an idiot. go die now. plzkthx.
Good to see you’re practicing that “love thy neighbor” bit.
Hypocrites.
you are just one more generalizing moron.
^^ Thank you reasonable internet user. I’ve been trying to tell this to people for YEARS.
well it WAS catholic i’m afraid; most of all the Pope (debate on wether the pope speaks for catholics starts… now!)
tried to re-attach the byzantine orthodox church to the catholic by sending troops to aid “the jerusalemites” which were really the leftovers of a byzantine-greek population, but true enough it was politics, but then you can argue if ANYONE can ever speak for a religion
hey idiot quit feeding the troll!
Hell’s Hot and Eternal……Check out the WORD.
the only word i am aware of is…BIRD
the bird the bird the bird is the word
ty, i couldn’t understand the previous sentence. and china is stupid? really? why?
I’d say China can be stupid. Any country that hero worships Mao Zedong has to have a few screws loose. At least some of the people there.
At-least the Chinese know their country sucks
Too-daloo I’m off to Mars!
We’re a democracy, remember? If we ever had a president like that, he was either the vice when the pres died or more than half the country DID see him as a god.
Not to be a prick, but we’re not a democracy. We’re a republic. There’s a difference.
Hey Hey, LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?
There was a reason for this, you know….
Wel, if we had done as MacArthur proposed and marched from Berlin to Vladivostok, “red communism” wouldn’t have been a problem. Realistically, it would have cost millions of lives, but it would have saved a hundred years in fallout, hatred, and the looming threat of a third global war.
hahaha, sure… did you ever hear about the M.A.D.?…. try reading up on history before making ignorant comments
Don’t worry. China is already ”redistributing” the population in a way we call colonialism and assimilation policies.
Even though most of the country is more-or-less uninhabitable to anything but sparse population distribution?
Halleluja !! Praise th- um… Jebus?
Both Jebus and iceceamvendor get 19,76 internets!
kinda like justin bieber? however i dont find his fan club to be nearly as annoying as annoying as the people that “hate” him.
THE PARTY IS A LIE!
If you say so, brosef…..
isn’t it Brozus?
Y tu Brute?
That party is indeed a lie. I hold it from good source that the real place is the Spirit world which in you partake to a Great Hunting in the stars. (Makes as much sense as the Christian religion : little.)
I heard the party Satan is running is going to be HOT!!!
It’ll be hot as hell…… I’m a Christian and I couldn’t resist
So, you are a believer in bronze age fairy tales which have no supporting evidence and couldn’t resist? Well, that is not surprising as people like you want to make everything you can’t resist illegal so you won’t be tempted.
Oh EvilDave, you scamp!
Let’s see your supporting evidence that it is a fairy tale.
THE EARTH IS NOT 6,000 YEARS OLD!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestial_teapot
You’re the one who has to prove something. Not us.
I always wondered… What if God (any God) IS the Big Bang ?
Are you saying the universe itself is God? That would be pantheism.
did’nt know pantheism. Intersting theory.
I award you 100 internetz.
Logic based on no evidence is preferable to logic with the whole entire universe as evidence?
Excuse me, but logic based on no evidence is why Plato was such a screwup as a scientist.
And again with the childish insults, I see. I’m sure someone somewhere is impressed.
hells yer all the cool kids are there, lets face it how here has never sinned
I don’t know, but if wrong grammar and spelling was a sin, you my friend would certainly go to hell
fine smart-ass how do you say sin as past tense
Actually, your use of “sinned” was the only grammatically correct element in the sentence.
*High-five*
I’m pretty sure he/she was just trolling xD
Yeah, I heard Satan’s been spreading those rumors. This dude, though, his name is Hitler, and he’s at the party right now. He says it sucks. Real bad.
Hitler got into heaven. God loves him for killing all those Jews, gypsies and homos
But you’re just Satan disguised as a robot with a number in his name! how can we trust you?
You are one of the few commentors on here that I acutally like. I’m so glad I’m not alone on here.
I think Christianity, as any religious or political dogma, is about controlling people.
The scary part is I think the people who are in charge these days are indoctrinated. I don’t think anyone is really “controlling” them.
No. It’s just that they’re not listening.
Its to have a relationship with God. You can’t really do that if you’re in hell now can you?
naw, it’s impossible for people to do ANYTHING unconditionally.
Excuse me EvilDave, but the Crusades are over and the Europeans gave up Christianizing Natives in the 1700s.
Tell that to the people coming to my house/stopping me on the street to hand me religious leaflets, Bibles etc.
You think that look was priceless. Wait till you observe the one that is on your when you enter Hell…..OPPS.
I’ve live in utah i”ve taken to using an axe on old white picket fences nailed together into a cross. Heathenism rules
Umm… no they didn’t. It lasted up until… well… it’s still going on. There are still missionaries.
But nothing like the crazies from back in the day. At least for the most part…
I like that Batman
You get free cake if you enter the fan club.
But the cake is a lie
Oh, spank! I grant SamK some internets!
cuz there is no spoon
“God, please save me from your followers.” Is pretty much the only prayer I might ever utter.
right before you get smote by lightning
Please name the last person your god smote with lightning.
Bill O’Reilly. He became a very silly person afterwards.
The extreme aethiests are way more annoying, you probably are one based on that comment…
How is that in any way extreme? By pointing the finger and declaring “NO U”, I think you’re making your own extremism far more apparent, hon.
Amen completely on the poster.
Actually he wanted to burn the Koran because of 9/11. Even though it was an extremist muslim group that did it… not all muslims. He was actually not Atheist, he was an extreme baptist or christian or somthing..
He was an idiot.
This.
Ah, I never said he was atheist, just extremist
…either way a giant eejit
I pray God to give you some grey matter
I don’t hate satan’s followers, I hate satan himself!
Just because Christians fall by their own principles, doesnt make the principles untrue.
the one thing i can’t stand is people pushing there religon on you……
I hate when anyone does that, muslim, aethiest, christian, budhist, whatever, its annoying
Wait? Atheism, a complete lack of religious faith or belief, is a religion
Atheism, the belief that there is no god, lacks only the aspect of having a ‘holy’ entity.
It is most certainly “a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of life and the universe”
This
“That” is a lie, and a self-serving one at that. Atheism is a lack of belief. Atheism is to belief what not collecting stamps is to hobbies.
except when was the last time some one went out of their way to tell you not to collect stamps?
and once they became an “organized Athiest Club” they become what they denounce… yes the Individual may well ‘not collect stamps” but when they get together the club becomes the Hobby.. whether they are ‘not collecting stamps” or ‘Not kniitting cat clothes’ or ‘Not going to Flea Markets’
“When did Atheists create an “organised club”?”
Umm, http://www.atheists.org ?
I think you get way too much preachy with your organized cult saying there is no Invisible Pink Unicorn. Those saying there is no Invisible Pink Unicorn sure have a very strong set of belief that it does not exist! (See what I did there? Atheism isn’t a set of belief.)
Wrong again.
A. Every atheist I encounter.
B. A few crazy people.
C. It’s a collective.
I award ThatKid multiple internets.
Thanks for clearing that up Totto, I would be very offended by Atheists if they didn’t believe in the awesome power of Big Bang Theory the sit-com.
Well I believe in the sitcom…
Same here!
Hey, we should start a religion!
There was a fourth spacial dimension though.
that more like nihlism
isn’t that more nihilism?
No, you have that backwards.
This.
We’re all going somewhere very unpleasant according to a couple of dozens of religions which are very much as valid as other religions.
(Take note that many religions and spiritualities don’t claim to send you to eternal pain for not believing.)
I believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
they’re the same or even more fanatic than actual believers
Couldn’t agree more. Especially when they try to get sneaky about it. You seem like a really together, clever person. You probably are generally happy with the way things are going, but there is a nagging feeling that there is something lacking. Something more that you could be doing to improve yourself. I can help you. Contact me to organise a completely free, no strings attached personality test. This audit of your psyche will totally open up your mind to a world of personal improvement possibilities. Go on!! What have you got to lose?
This can be said for a lot of things with fan clubs.
Twilight? No wait, I’m not fond of either..
If everyone cared and nobody cried,
If everyone loved and nobody lied,
If everyone shared and swallowed their pride,
We’d see the day when nobody died.
I’m not really a fan of Nickelback, but this is a good message.
If anyone cares to hear more, just reply to this comment.
These lyrics reflect an unrealistic worldview. Try Nietzsche for a better one.
God is dead – Nietzsche.
Nietzsche is dead – God.
Win!
Nietzsche died of Syphillus. God should get tested.
«God(s)» never said anything. Lunatics claimed he/they did speak to them though.
Except that it is just more fail. No one has heard god saying N is dead.
We *know* what N wrote…
Really? So, after saying that (not really) in 1882, it took your god 18 years to kill Nietzsche?
Yeah, there is the power of your god.
If god wants everyone to exercise free will and willingly believe and act as god wishes, why would god kill Nietsche for exercising free will?
Oh, and if god is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscience, why did it take god over 20 years to kill Nietzsche?
Just shows God gives people plenty of time to change if you ask me. That’s not punishment, that’s grace. Also, they may be exercising free will, but you make it sound like God works in the sense of, “Well, they chose wrong, down to hell you go for not agreeing with me!” That’s not how it is. Your choices reflect the consequences. If you want to choose a life of wrong, evil, death, then that’s what you’ll get. It’s not so much as “punishment” as it is “reaping what you’ve sewn.”
God bless.
But if he is all powerful and, by extension, all knowing, then shouldn’t he already know whether they will change or not?
Don’t bother using logic while discussing religion. Fairy tales’ logic flaws are to disregard for the enjoyment of the story.
Trolling status: Success!
Achievement unlocked : trolling on religion (1G)
*sigh*… achievement whores…
Haha, that’s cute. We can assume natural death, and diseases like AIDS and cancer would be taking the day off too, eh?
Don’t you know AIDS is the wraith of god(s) again’t male homosexuals? Religious nuts. *facepalms*
Id say go to hell, but ur probly headed there already
Every day, more and more people are turning their back on the church and going back to God….
And another ahmen to that. The worst thing that ever happened to religion was that it organized…primarily *because* more people are worshiping the *church* than anything else…
Religion ”is” the organisation. You ment spirituality.
That is what I chose to do, too.
If this were anti-gay or anti-jew, this would be incredibly offense. But anti-christian? Totally fine. Front-page worthy, in fact, right?
you do know it says god not CHRISTIAN GOD I HATE CHRISTIANS LOLOOL U MAD ?!
A-F**king-men to that statement
Don’t forget such funny things like the prohibition of science, silent agreement to Slavery and the Holocaust, exorcism (which pretty much boils down to torture), destroying cultural heritage and whole cultures in the name of the one true God (crusades, missionaries f.e.), covering up sexual assault and rape on children…
The religious nutjobs who inherited their belief because of the Church’s proselitism will then argue organized religions did this, not God.
God bless.
You can even be in the fan club. Just don’t tell me I’m going to hell for deciding, with my own free will, not to believe what you believe.
I think we can all come to the agreement that any type of preacher is quite annoying.
God bless.
Most of them, but not all inside them
No, the problem is religion, plain and simple. Without religion, you don’t get “an overzealous approach to religion”, therefore the rest of your post is moot.
The game. We all lost it.
Indeed we did.
Oh goodness yes we lost the game. We pretty much lost it when the comments got past… 4.
Thumbs down -.-
No! You didn’t! *dundunDUUUUN*
HOW IS THIS DEMOTIVATIONAL?
Seriously, getting sick of Very Demotivational means you find a photo and limit your comment to six words.
Not only that, but to follow the meme you need to watch format, font, color, and theme.
The mods need to put the hammer down and move non-conforming stuff off to sister sites, or your time-on-site numbers are going to tank.
Dear Jim.
Do you need a blanket? Is it cold under the troll bridge reserved for the newbies?
You met the same extremists you just described, but the rest of them are pretty decent chellovecks.
was that a Clockwork Orange reference? I myself have nothing against Gods “Fan Club”, it’s the crazies within it I’m not too fond of…
Wow. GREAT job contradicting yourself.
Im Christian and im not that fanatic of God like the people i’ve seen, trust me, its worse.
But at least are others like me that cares and believes in God but never want to tell other people, selfish maybe. A relief to people everywhere, yes
Thats awesome I want a sign like this!!
The mass murder of those people in Arizona by an atheist proves that all atheists are latent killers. You just can’t trust them.
Ugly syllogism.
And, what about the Inquisition, or the Salem witch trials, all very Christian people? Or the jihad warriors? All of them are REALLY religious people.
Don´t overgeneralize. Go learn some Aristotelian logic.
Would you stop making us believers look bad by saying dumb, over-generalized crap like that?
If you claim fairy tales are actually true, nobody needs to make you ”look dumb”.
AMEN.
*Ramen
May you be touched by his noodly apendage.
Replace “God” with “Allah” and you will be headhunted in some areas..
Challenge accept… Actually I love life too much..
That’s exactly how I feel about Justin Bieber. C:
Oh, and also.. atheism for the win :3
Fan-club AND hate-club, and anyone caring too much!
The world would be a better place if people just kept their beliefs to themselves, and didn’t bother others with it.
So, here is what I believe: If you do not believe, you are going to Hell. Now, if I don’t evangelize, how much must I hate you? If I know you don’t believe, and I don’t do anything, I must seriously hate that person. It’s responsibility.

There was a fourth spacial dimension though.
There’s always a few in the crowd that ruin things for the rest of us. But be happy, she basically sentenced herself to her own Hell.
We sure can agree there are extremists. But what is your point, zombie worshiper?
You are one of them, Orly.
Can’t we say that it was funny and move on? Even if it wasn’t?
Extreme beliefs are bad. Mmmmkay?
that has to do with the “God save me from your followers” bumper sticker, right?
Internets to Hachet from a person who is not religious. Well said.
580 people are groupies.
Religion tends to become a force for control and corruption. After all, it was the religious leaders who were the ones responsible for having Jesus crucified.
To those who agree with this sentiment I say: don’t let jerks who claim to be speaking for God prevent you from knowing Him.
just like Naruto
God doesn’t have a fan club in hell. Enjoy your destination!
God bless.
Then, wa can do a lot of bad things, because we are going to be forgiven, as long as we don’t reject God, and admit that “he” exists ?
…
That’s interesting.
That’s called a religious hypocrite.
So, no. You can’t do that.
At least i tried.

Can’t we all just settle our differences and agree that people are going to think what they’re going to think?
Or that everybody sucks equally?
Marry me!
Get many proposals here? & being a total smart-ass here or is the sanctity of marriage out of the question?
This is one heck of an argument going on here! (An argument is more like a debate, not a quarrel.) I just wish I could believe it’s worth the effort to voice my opinion here, without the people who disagree with me to simply shrug off my statements. I applaud everyone’s efforts (everyone as in both sides of the controversy), but don’t think any progress will be made here.
I am atheist but was still pissed of when they changed A.D. to C.E.
indeed.
This is exactly wat the poster was saying. The fan club is annoying. people rather sit online and argue about god or lack there of instead of just enjoying the joke. laugh, its funny.
anyways everyone everyone here would have been identified as an atheist at one time just ask the ancient romans…
Theism for jerks.
