  1. Me says:

Welcome To America, A Country Where Every Word Apparently Must Be Capitalised.

  2. andreas says:

    America in a nutshell.

  3. Yes says:

As if there isn’t scholarships for academics?

    • Cecil says:

There is one academic s scholarship for every ten based in sports, race and gender. Sucks to be a poor, palefaced kid in America who thinks helping people might be more important than football.

      • Lord Muck says:

Silly white people, don’t you know you are racist filth! I read it in the papers so it’s true!

      • Fact says:

Fact: schools need to be able to sustain themselves. Sports bring in money. It is easier to justify an athletic scholarship as an investment than a scholarship to an intelligent person who may or may not end up contributing to the university.

        • Fact says:

Also, all athletes still have to get into the school and maintain passing grades.

          • hai says:

yes, because those professors will not pass him so he can play in the game. It’s just like high school.

            • madcapfeline says:

Um, yeah, read the paragraph above about making money. Those professors don’t pay their mortgages with good intentions and positive thoughts.

              • Dudethunder says:

Sports are a money drain, no matter what your college football coach told you. Do you think a stadium and all of the rest of the sports equipment is free? Let alone the transportation?

And “the city paid for it” does not mean it was free, either. It was simply unilaterally charged to the taxpayers’ accounts.

So not only do idiots get free college, their sports take money away from learning, which is supposed to be the point of college these days.

                • Darth says:

I wouldn’t worry about that… tuition prices have been climbing much faster than inflation. Professors are getting paid more to educate less effectively than their predecessors.

                • aznhavsarz says:

Sorry to burst your bubble, but as a current student i know for a fact that Oregon’s sports program is completely self sustaining, meaning that it doesn’t need to take any money from the school, so in fact that idiot that gets free school actually makes money for the school meaning we can grant more academic based scholarships.

                • bns says:

my university’s athletics department has made money for at least the last 5 years.

                • mmkay says:

You mean ‘money train’. Bowl games, tickets, merchandise, TV deals, etc….

It’s not on the taxpayer’s dime, dummy. They’re not giving out scholarships to these athletes out of charity. They make BANK for the school.

                  You fail.

          • Student says:

Coaches have other students do the athletes’ homework. If you are a normal, white, smart kid, you will get nothing. Our society has its priorities upside down. Athletes are given the world just because they can throw a ball but most can not form a complete sentence on their own.

            • Jack says:

That was an awful generalization. Pro athletes almost need to learn public speaking more than a regular worker simply because of the press and media. If they cannot form sentences, then they are mocked and ridiculed. They are paid to make a good image for the team and help them win games, and if they make a bad image or set bad examples, owners do not want those players on the team, regardless of how good they are. i.e. Manny Ramirez or Randy Moss if you are from Boston

        • . says:

I don’t live in the US and I think it’s ridiculous sports are such a big business for schools.
I don’t know any country besides the US where a non-negligible amount of people can get a scholarship purely due to athletic abilities.
I don’t think my university even has sports teams…

        • Orly says:

Maby it’s time USA reconsider private funding of schools? After you fix your healthcare private disaster, of course.

          • Greg says:

Silly Socialist……like the public system is working well for the Brits….please…..

            • Boosterseat says:

I got thrashed by a moose in Canada and the hospital didn’t charge me a cent.

              • Koinu says:

too bad you live in Canada… its like America with downs.
Also, to other onlookers, the mods edited his comment. It originally read “I got f@#cked by a moose…” And of course the hospital won’t charge you. You’re too dumb to realize that it wasnt a hospital at all; it was a moose prostitution ring. Silly Canadian…

Aaand in comparison to China—the entire world. Before you cry “FOUL!” just take you a little look-see in the section a bit lower in the page, sub-title “Associations between national IQ and other factors” and you might understand why some countries *may* have scored as low as they did.

But 2 points? Hanging your hat on a field-goal kick, aren’t ya?

            • me says:

              Works in my country

            • Bad Moon says:

It works fine. But when you have more immigrants pouring in, many who do NOT pay into the system (remember, this is NOT free healthcare, it’s paid for by taxes and National Insurance contributions), then it is going to end up a disaster. There are people who are happy to take, take, take and not give anything back. NOTHING is sustainable when it’s working like that.

            • Dragonrider1227 says:

I’ve yet to hear a brit complain. In fact, they think Americans are idiots for not doing it. Canada does it too. And when you have Americans trying to get medicine from Canada because it costs too much in their own country, you’re doing something wrong

              • CookieChan says:

ALL Europian countries think like this.Silly Americans, you wont pay extra taxes so poor people won’t die.Not that you want dirty immigrants alive so they can take your money and jobs, right?

        • Darth says:

This is the part I take issue with… the fact that sports do bring in money money. What’s the big draw with sports anyway?

        • Dereck says:

Well, having a plaque that reads “Stephen Colbert studied and graduated here” is an achievement in itself.
I’m more concerned with footballers in high schools. They get free marks and miss some lessons just because they’re in the team.

      • Argentinian says:

    • MooseTahKrakish says:

      Very much so….
      America sucks.

      • TechnoScrabble says:

It’s not the country, or the ends of the way it’s run.
It’s the means of the way it’s run, due to many of the people in it.

        • Book Bastard says:

Please explain what this comment is supposed to mean, because I can’t tell.

          • GLaDOS's Mailer Daemon says:

It’s quite simple. What he means is that even though the country is part of it, most of it is because the people INSIDE the country live there, because of the large population.

            ¿Comprendes?

            • James Hawk III says:

No, that’s not what it means at all. It means that many of the people of the country have chosen dubious means to attempt to bring about the goal of freedom for all. The goal is liberty. The steps taken to accomplish it (affirmative action, excessive social welfare, treatment of a symptom instead of cause) are thought by many to encourage liberty, but do exactly the opposite.

      • Justice says:

Give me any nation, and I’ll tell you what sport/pastime is more highly regarded than education.

But yes, in this way America does suck. We’re a nation of obsessives.

    • Ignifer says:

Sad as it is, it makes sense when you look at it from a financial perspective. That bozo is helping to bring in a lot of money – football generates revenue. He’s not getting a free ride, he’s paying them in a different way.

      • Well... says:

Except that that revenue just goes back to the athletic department. The actual academic departments of most universities never see a penny of football revenue.

        • Person says:

In this case you could probably argue that’s acceptable though. Since University of Oregon’s athletic department is financially self-sustaining and has actually given money to the rest of the school in the past.

        • Dey see me trollin says:

Oregon made $43 million in profit (i.e. revenues less expenses) through their football program and Auburn made $30 million. That’s equivalent to a $1500 subsidy for every current student, or about half a semester of current tuition in both schools.

And FWIW, the purely academic scholarships (for having solid grades, not “IQ”) I received were enough to cover my school’s tuition. There are plenty out there, with some of them like National Merit and Robert C. Byrd readily available to those who excel in school, which is much easier than being one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the country coming out of high school, making football a full-time commitment in college, and leading your team to the BCS National Championship. My scholarships gave me money just to go to school, no strings attached aside from some generous GPA minimum that anyone with half a brain can muster.

          /People complaining about nothing.
//Only 1 in every 3.5 million people should have an IQ of 179. If he has to work 3 jobs, he’s doin’ it wrong. Also, the deviations from the norm necessary to get an athletic scholarship to a good school far exceed those necessary to get an academic one.

          • bns says:

except they lose money on all other sports(maybe not mens bball). still profit overall, but its not that much. remember they have to give the same amount of scholarships to both sexes.

      • Bobby Feet says:

That’s a myth, sadly. One I’m sure that the athletics departments love to spread, but a myth none the less. A few schools have programs that generate more money than the absorb, but those are very rare, not more than a handful in the nation.

Of course, the athletics departments have gotten very good over the years at hiding their finances. A professor in my graduate program once told me that when he was on the budget committee for the entire university, the football team was still allowed to hide their part of the budget from them. The only reason it came out that a lot of shady dealings were going on was because the local paper issues a bunch of FOIA requests and finally got the documentation.

I imagine that part of the problem is that most football coaches (or at least, most at the big schools) are paid more than the university presidents, in the millions of dollars range. Even firing them takes a few-million penalty. That’s got to be a good-sized sink right there.

And before you ask, no, alumni donations do no correlate with the team’s performance, another myth that’s tossed around. At least not donations to the school as a whole. (I’m not sure of targeted donations to the football teams go up or not.)

      Craig Krenzel of Ohio State
2003 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (National Championship Game)
      Major: Molecular Genetics
      Final GPA: 3.68

A 4.2 is impossible in college. It was feasible in my high school due to AP courses being graded as 5-point As, so I hope that a 3.68 in a real major, not general studies as most of the players take, is acceptable enough for you.

And yet, that athelete contributes nothing to society, while a ‘nerd’ ended up designing all of the little gadgets you so love, from your cell phone, to your indoor plumbing that is pretty much standard in all homes in developed countries.
so, go on and praise your atheletes, whom do nothing for society, while the nerd you made fun of in highschool ends up making a device which allows cars and everything else that uses fossil fuels, to run on CO2 and produce Oxygen, solving the worlds energy crisis and fixing polution.

  6. troy says:

America is one funked up country!

  7. haha says:

Doesn’t he have to train his ass off everyday to get a sports scholarship? And there are schools that give you scholarships for an IQ like that O.o

    • Timerider says:

Unless you’re a minority or below the poverty line, you’re probably not getting a scholarship.
I had a 3.8 GPA in high school and am getting a 3.7 in college, do I get a scholarship? No.

      • Minty says:

FAFSA, my friend. And yeah, i have a 3.78 (weighted), and i’m eligible for scholarships at most of my colleges. I just have to apply.

        • ay dios mio says:

Are you joking? FAFSA is all about minorities.
And student loans/grants you have to pay back =/= scholarship.
You still have to work your way through. That plus athletic scholarships can be upped when tuition costs rise, guess what isn’t able to match rising prices, academic scholarships.

          • angelofsaturn says:

You don’t have to repay grants. That’s why they run out faster than loans.

          • Pi says:

FAFSA is all about being poor as all get out.

            • Justin says:

So true. My first year of college, my mom claimed me on her taxes, so I got to use her income. Since she was out of work for most of the year on injury, she made nearly nothing. I had that entire year paid. The next year, my dad, who was working, claimed me. We owed more than half my tuition, room & board that year, I think about $2000/quarter.

            • Ariane says:

There are kids who come from poor families and go to school for nothing where as I have to pay out of state tuition (I can’t get in state tuition anywhere). My dad makes $270K so he has decided to pay for it now so I don’t have to take out loans and pay interest. But later on my white highly intelligent ass will have to pay over $100K because my dad makes money where as other won’t have to pay s**t just because they can run or come from poor families. I mean it’s great that they get to go to school but I feel like if they got need based grants/scholarships they like me should have to pay it back later.

              • Yuk Yuk says:

The fact that your dad makes $270K a year is the reason they decide to help the poorer families children get an education. It’s all about trying to eliminate the socioeconomic barrier that exists in this country.

Fair is fair type sentiments like that only work if people are on equal footing to begin with.

      • Ghostwish says:

Try actually applying for one, smartie.

      • Altik_0 says:

Pfft – I’m in no minority group whatsoever, and I’m actually making thousands of dollars a semester out of scholarships. Why? Because I took a bunch of f**k-easy classes from the community college while I was in high school.

People who whine about football scholarships are just lazy. :P

        • aeiour says:

“I took a bunch of f**k-easy classes from the community college while I was in high school.”
“People who whine about football scholarships are just lazy.” Oh,the irony could kill.

      • nubcannon says:

        Thats a pretty s**tty gpa

      • Me says:

Must have bombed the ACT. I made a 29 on it and had a 3.7 in high school and have a full ride. Study harder.

      • Miaw says:

        Move to another country. :P

Over here, everybody gets state funding (the level of it depends on how well off you are). Need more?, get a very nice state loan deal. Pay it all back when your diploma earns you a nice big salary check.

I’ve finished my ma and all I have to pay back 800 Euro. In the next 10 years or so. It’s not perfect but it works. Usually.

      • Johnny Two Toes says:

I ended high school with a 3.83, didn’t qualify for any scholarships because my parents were over the income limit (which is ridiculously low, like $40K at the time of my application), me being a dependent of them, I thus did not qualify.

        • Orly says:

Ya, where I live if your parents earn pretty much anything above the poverty level, you won’t qualify for help. State considers your parents are paying. Even if you don’t live with them. You’re actually expected to sue your parents if you’re not happy about the no-help policy if they refuse to pay the minimum $ for you scholarship.

    • demonite says:

I got a 4.0/4.0 GPA overall in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas (ranked in the top ten in the US). Grand total of acedemic scholarships for this broke white boy: $2,000. I definitely would not have made it without loans and need-based government grants.

    • J says:

So *WHAT* if he does? He’s training to play a GAME with a BALL. No matter how hard he trains, that’s all he’s doing.

Why should that be such a road to riches?

  8. Broly says:

Well if the kid with an I.Q. of 179 could run a 4.2 sec 40. Pass for over 300 yards and 3 TD a game he’d have a free ride too. God Bless America

  9. Robert says:

WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS INTERNET!
NOW THE JOCKS AND NERDS ARE FIGHTING!

  10. Fox(cz) says:

Sport scholarships are total bulls**t of an idea. Sport scholarships should be possible only for subjects about sports, what the hell does being in good physical shape in common with education…. come the f**k on. It’s the peak of rediculousness.

    • Orly says:

Actually, being in good physical shape is a crucial part of education. Of course USA is doing it wrong as instead of really promoting physical activity it promotes watching others do it.

  11. jason says:

chances of nose picker turning pro is pretty close to zero. and if he does, the chances of him being a successful pro is close to zero. ask matt leinert what’s that like.

179 iq doesnt guarantee success either. it is his working three jobs that will prepare him for real life. there is the success story right there.

    • GunnerJones says:

      well put, J

The only argument FOR college ball is it generates revenue for the colleges and universities to fund other scholarships and departments. How much and where it goes is a bit of a mystery.

      • captain Obviously says:

The reality is, for the vast majority of schools (outside of big-name schools like USC, Michigan State, etc.) end up losing money, when everything (lights, stadium, uniforms, marketing, transportation, staff, and so on) is figured in. That’s why the numbers are always fuzzy. But it looks better if they say they are making money to be used for scholarships or school programs. Same thing with prep sports.

        • ay dios mio says:

You are so stupid. The very fact that there isn’t a playoff system is proof that they are making money. Every school in the SEC got around a million dollars just because Auburn won the championship. College is a business if football didn’t make money it wouldn’t be a big deal.

    • The Eccentric says:

There’s also the fun put in if he gets a career-breaking injury and can never play football again. That’s what really screws you over.

    • exactlywhoyouthinkitis says:

we’re not talking about if he’s going to be succesfull or not, because he obviously isnt, hes black, one day he’ll be accused for rape ,drug abuse or murder

  12. Sunda says:

Somethings in America that started out being wholesome and fun have been warped through the ages to a degree that makes them no longer recognizable, but also damaging to society… This athlete/student thing is definitely one of them…

  13. Skywalker says:

And he makes millions of dollars for the School… He doesn’t get a free ride, college athletes should get paid!

    • ay dios mio says:

If they should get paid then why are they even attached to the schools? Just make it a minor league for the NFL, but as long as we pretend that these kids actually belong in college then we’re dragging down every kid who actually works his tail off to get a real education.

    • jake says:

Yea, he gets college free AND gets paid, while the 179 IQ kid works three jobs to just pay for school, that makes perfect sense.

      • Skywalker says:

He makes thew school millionf of dollars and can’t get a job while he’s playing. School sell products with his name/face, he gets nothing from it. If the 179 IQ kid could make money for the school, he would get a scholarship.
Stop being a butthurt nerd about it

        • Groundwalker says:

Coming from someone reading through the comments on memebase and misspelling words while trying to make witty remarks…does that make you a dumb nerd?

        • Frazer Hans RichArdson says:

          tut,tut,tut Mr.Skywalker,
          *He makes the school millions*.
*The school sells products with his name/face.
          If the 179 I.Q. kid….ect.,ect.

Better luck next time and remember those fullstops!!.

  14. Matteo says:

There’s no way there’s anyone with a 179 IQ who’s working 3 jobs to go to OREGON. Really? Maybe if they showed a Cal or a Stanfurd player, THEN it’d be believeable.

  15. Jof4's says:

I.Q. tests are a measure of how well you solve “standardized” problems. i.e. Problems that have already been solved before and have a definite solution. Not to mention, the only IQ tests I’ve ever taken were all multiple choice. That means a 1 in (number of total possible answers) chance of getting the correct answer when guessing. An I.Q. test means absolutely nothing as far as REAL intelligence goes. For example, I took an I.Q. test when I was 14. I scored a 165. I graduated with a GPA of 2.9 and 35th in my class (out of a class of 44).

TL;DR : Mr. “179 I.Q.” might be the dumbest person alive. I.Q. tests aren’t accurate at all.

    • Ambassador44 says:

True, you can have an IQ of 179 and not using it well and fully. IQ’s about logic, not intelligence or whatever culture you have.

      • Person says:

Actually IQ is more about your environment than any form of intelligence. Considering IQ tests are often made by middle class white guys there’s a reason middle class white people often do the best. You could easily craft an IQ test skewed towards any minority group or subculture. Additionally, the definition of intelligence is based off of the culture you live in, some cultures believe taking your time to answer a question is more indicative of higher intelligence than answering it as quickly as possible.

        • Orly says:

True. I still recall those question about scrambled words. I couldn’t solve any and then I realized they were about names of stuff in another country. The country the ones who made the IQ test lived in.

    • Aesthareon says:

You can also be pretty damn smart, and still not do well in high school. I’m currently at community college for that very reason.

  16. Gabo says:

Malcolm….well the 179 IQ kid is going to be president….

  17. Ambassador44 says:

One good reason for me not to study in America.

And also the fact that you can’t buy alcohol under 21. Damn, that must suck.

    • Squirrel says:

      It does

      • Cynical-Vegemite says:

Yeah what’s up with that insane rule? If you can vote you should be allowed to drink. (something’s got to wash the bad taste of US politics out of your mouth)

        • Response says:

Who cares about voting…they can force me to go to war and I can’t legally drink yet. I would rather die in a drunken state then die fighting against my will for some political bulls**t.

          • madcapfeline says:

Actually, you can buy alcohol at the PX at 18. If you were actually fighting for your country, you’d know that.

            • betterthingstodo says:

I’ll fight for MY freedom when it is necessary for me to do so. Until then, I’m not doing any fighting for the ‘priorities’ of this country. Why should I go fight overseas and risk my life? Let those people deal with their problems like they’ve been doing for centuries. The U.S. can’t fix its own problems, much less the problems of the world.

As for buying alcohol at 18, I can do that at my local bar; it’s just not legal.

            • Justin says:

In what magical US Military are you talking about? I’m in the military, and no one under 21 is allowed to drink, let alone purchase alcohol, just like the rest of the country. We follow the same rules you do, if not more.

              • Mira says:

Negatory, mate. You can purchase alcohol on base/post with a valid active duty military ID even if you’re under 21. Cheers.

                • Justin says:

I’d love to know what base you’re on, because I’ve been to Forts Benning, Bragg, Drum, & Gordon, and all of them will not sell to minors (and being legal, I much appreciate this fact). They still have to follow the law, just like everyone else.

                  • Fenicks says:

You CAN Buy alcohol on SOME US military installations when you are 18. Columbus AFB in Columbus Mississippi is one of them. I was stationed there for 4 years.

        • Dan says:

I agree. You can vote, you can join the military, you can drive, you can own a firearm…but drinking is out of the question?

          • The Eccentric says:

It was raised back when the draft was still in order, to keep 18 year olds from burning their draft cards, as they were allowed to drink whilst having them. Why the law wasn’t made archaic is anyone’s guess.

          • Quiesco says:

Well, if you look at all those things separately they’re all fine and dandy but combine them with alcohol and you get the answer you are looking for.

    • sucky-suck-suck-suck says:

The 21 years drinking age isn’t actually a federal law. Drinking ages are set by individual states. However, the federal government have said they will cut federal funding to any state if they set a drinking age lower than 21….. If a state could survive without federal funding, they could set a drinking age of 16 if they wanted!

    • Tron says:

Another good reason for you to not study in the US is that nobody here wants you here.

    • aeiour says:

because they hope that they will actually have some sense and wont get addicted to it.alcohol is an incredibly dangerous substance and can kill very eaisily.

    • Avast says:

Drinking age and driving age need to be reversed. Not directly, but people should drink BEFORE they drive, so they can get the whole ‘wopee i can get drunk’ stage out of their system before they start driving, rather than having the ability to drive cars during the ‘woopee i can get drunk’ stage.

Something like 16 for drinking and 18 for driving.

My university is right now spending 250 MILLION dollars on renewing the football stadium while state cuts have forced it to reduce the number of TA and RA positions that it offers to grad students, i.e., those who actually do the research that puts universities on the map. I hardly find that justifiable.

    • exactlywhoyouthinkitis says:

it isn’t justifiable. thank god I live in holland, here such actions would never be accepted by the people

      • AnotherAnon says:

Remember, America, these kids get their scholarship because the average American LOOOOOOVES their games and sh*t like gatorade. If their people did not watch the games, and was not interested in those franchises, these kids would not be granted entrance to the universities, let alone get a scholarship, based on athletic abilities alone.
Remember, America is the country where “In God we Trust” is printed in their dollar bills. What greater God is there than money?

      • AnotherAnon says:

    • blarelli says:

I don’t think you are understanding the economics here. Take a school like University of Florida. Their football team alone generates more than $60 million a year for the school in tv contracts, ticket sales, and having a cool event to invite donors to. And that doesn’t include licensing for gear.
That being said, I do agree with you when it comes to some of the smaller schools. If the sports programs don’t at the very least break even they should be cut. At my school, the sports programs are a money pit.

      • Aweeleprechan says:

most major university athletic departments are now financially divorced from the schools they represent, meaning the athletic departments keep most of the money they generate

      • Popito says:

I do agree with you and the economics argument is undeniable. But I still find that in a university where research is supposedly a priority, thinking how much research could be funded with that money is just depressing. Evenmore in a time like now, in the middle of state cuts and rising tuition fees.

        • Orly says:

America universities’ priorities : Money > money again > still money > > > > > > reputation (because it influences on money) > research (influences on money again) > education > ethics/fairness.

  19. Jo says:

This is all completely ridiculous. The athlete gets to go for free (and the $250M goes to the football stadium) because the sport generates INCREDIBLE wealth for the school. Forget scholarships, NCAA football players should be getting paid.

But the kid that might cure AIDS or send people to Mars has to work three jobs? I would rather give the scholarship to the person that will actually make a diffference in the world, not the dumbass that can throw a ball around.

Bread and circusses. Not that it hasn’t happened before, you know. :)

You are free to donate money to your school as you choose.

Fortunately for you, also, most football and basketball programs are profitable and can thus funnel money back to the university’s other priorities. Oh, and most research is far more mundane than curing cancer or sending people to Mars, and a kid like that would never have to work three jobs.

  20. Jake J. says:

My high school recently spent $500,000 on a new weight room for sports. My high school recently spent >$1000 on new books for the main part of an education. I owe my high school $70 for obscure reasons for their inadvertent spending.

    F**k you, America.

if u r having trouble getting to oregon with a 179 IQ, u dont deserve to go to college

  22. shazaam says:

yeah if someone has a 179 IQ they sure as hell won’t be going to oregon.

    • legion says:

Maybe. What if your dad works at the local lumber mill only part-time because of cutbacks and you need to work two PT jobs to help everyone eat? Moving away may not be one of your options. You cannot afford to move and the best way out is either Army or Oregon State … so, fancy your chances in some place like Afghanistan or get a degree.

Oregon is a really good school!

  23. boxedlunch says:

    wait…

  24. velocityg4 says:

It’s more like that football player brings a lot of money into the school. Many times more than the cost of education. While the person with the IQ of 179 costs the school money.

Fiscally it makes sense to encourage the football player with a free ride.

    • ay dios mio says:

Costs the school money? Yes that’s why people pay $500+ for books at the campus bookstore, because the school is taking a hit out of the goodness of their hearts. Your comment makes no sense whatsoever. May God have mercy on your soul.

      • Mira says:

Doesn’t help that the school bookstore jacks the price up 20-30%. All my professors warn us to purchase our books online or at a regular bookstore. Being an English major sucks–we have two dozen books a semester, as compared to a Bachelor of Science or Mathematics major who might have three or four.
Also doesn’t help that in the English Department professors often believe that there is no such thing as an “A” paper (in advanced classes, of course, NOT English Comp 101 and the like) and you’re basically stuck trying to get a B+ as best you can…which, naturally, drops your GPA.
        Sadness…

    • Dan says:

I should have read the comments before posting, you covered the same point I did.

  25. keithybabes says:

Sports scholarships are one of the few ways that stupid people can get on in life. Why deny them that?

Hey keith why are all of my comments getting modded? Is this some weird hangover from when that guy moderated PK?

    • Lathspell says:

It’s called natural selection. The fact the America has eliminated it entirely is why your average IQ is so low and why you have one of the highest percentage of obesity. It’s also why the American society has started its decline.

      • ay dios mio says:

Wow, IQ scores have actually went up on average about ten percent, and I have to assume that you’re not from the U.S, so I get to tell you that if you’re European then your system is just as bad if not worse. Everyone gets to go, and Europe is actually very bad about people staying there and never actually going to work.

        • Lathspell says:

No, it’s not this bad. AT ALL. I’ve talked to thousands of Americans over the time and 95% of you guys are….”special”, to use a politically correct term. You’re saying that your IQ scores have gone up 10%. So now you’ve gone from 60 to 66 or what? I’ve visited many European countries and an 8th grader in Europe will kick an American 12th grader’s ass. Most Americans can barely speak or write proper English, and it’s your damn mother tongue. Most Europeans can speak two languages +. Nobody gets into college or university because they can throw a ball here. Here, you have to take exams, present projects and whatnot to stand a chance at a higher education.

          • Orly says:

Lathspell, don’t get your hopes too high about Europe. I agree education is better, but kids still have bad writing skills most of the time. Or at least those who write French. (Do kids in UK write better English?)

      • keithybabes says:

        I’m not American , FYI

        • Orly says:

Actually USA stand out for the regular crappy education and regular crappy healthcare system.

Remember, the top 10% richest part of the population you like to think your nation is like is NOT what other nations look at.

We look at how your system works as a whole and for most people. And it’s appalling.

Can’t believe a Mexican is more wealthy than you guys…

    • ay dios mio says:

If you’re a Mexican paying for college in the U.S then you have failed already.

    • Cynical-Vegemite says:

Actually it’s not surprising really. America has most of the wealthiest people on Earth but they still make up less than 5% of the US population. But that 5% is so super-rich it masks how poor the US really is.

Compare the US’s middle class to any other 1st world country’s middle class and you’ll see a marked difference in wealth. When you start to factor in things like cost of living, interest rates, average wages the difference tips away from the US enormously.

      • Vincent says:

That’s generally what happens when you’ve got several thousand sports players who get something on the order of $8M a year, movie stars who get $40M a movie and do an average of 2-3 movies per year, and then the biggest of them all: Oprah. Her pay is $325M a year. Who the f**k needs to make that amount of money in a single year? Now, if she went about curing diseases with a snap of her fingers or donated most of that money to helping America’s millions upon millions of homeless get back on their feet, I wouldn’t complain, but what the hell does she actually do to earn it?

Then you have your working middle class citizens who make about 12$ an hour working 40 hours a week, and have to pay taxes, bills, health insurance, car insurance, car payments, rent (which can range anywhere from 800-1500$ for a three bedroom apartment, depending on your city), and then there’s the cost of groceries, clothes, and anything other necessities. And these are the families that often have 3-4+ children. Hell, my mother makes 24$ an hour working 40 hours a week (though it’s closer to 70 with as much as she has to bring home just to keep up), it’s just me and her, and we live in low income housing, yet we’re still only managing to stay afloat.

      • Dan says:

And it’s widely agreed that the strongest indicator of a stable country is a large and stable middle class.

      • Tron says:

Lol, how poor the US really is?

The US is not poor. The US middle class is not poor. This is a fantasy you’ve concocted to help you cope with your Australian inferiority complex.

I’d say the exact opposite is true. The fact that the US has 20 million illegal immigrants who are very poor, masks how rich the US truly is. The average American is wealthier and has higher purchasing power than the citizens of almost any other 1st world country.

      • Tron says:

What’s surprising is that you retarded Australians think you’re in some position of superiority when the only rich people in your country are white. The fact that you have so few minorities masks the fact that inequality is far higher in your country than in the US, you just keep out all the people that tend to be unequal with the white racist elitists in your country.

Look at any of your Asian immigrants or God forbid your aboriginals, and you’ll see that wealth in Australia is inflated simply because you’ve been successful at your “white Australia” policies. White Americans are wealthier than white Australians, you just have like 3 black people and 10 “Abbos” left in your country.

        • Seriously? says:

An all-white country? Success!! My goal in life is to move to Australia! Screw these stupid political wars and Mexicans that are taking over.

        • ben says:

Hey bigot, shhh time. Australia is primarily multicultural, regardless, and the ‘white Australia’ policy was revoked in the ’70s, there are plenty of immigrants entering Australia yearly. We never had slaves, unlike yourselves, so saying there’s 3 black people left is incorrect, as the only black people in Australia are immigrants that entered that weren’t enslaved. Nice racism to Aboriginals you’ve got there, putting it in quotations doesn’t make it not racist and it’s not like you were quoting him. Racism is a much larger problem for America where your lives seem to revolve primarily around the notion of “race”. There are plenty of non-white people in “positions of superiority” in Australia. Also, illegal immigrants aren’t factored into the GPI, as far as I’m aware. I certainly feel sorry for all those “n1ggers” (as I’d imagine you’d put it, just as you put “Abbos” into the other persons mouth) that have to deal with your foolishness over there, foolish bigot.

          • Tron says:

            You’re an idiot.

Australia is not multicultural. You’re 90% white and the few minorities you have are brushed under the rug. You pretend like race is not a problem there when it only appears that way because your minorities are so few, so disadvantaged, and so powerless that any problems they have are simply ignored by your privileged white majority which wishes to avoid dealing with its problems by ignorantly and hypocritically criticizing America for race issues.

Australians are way, way, way more racist than Americans. In fact, racism is univerally tolerated in polite society in Australia. What’s funny is Australians will be preoccupied with their hypocritical delusions about America, calling Americans racist, yet in the next breath you hypocrites will complain about, yes “Abbos” (a term that is used OFTEN in Australia with zero stigma).

Australia: “OMG you Americans are so racist, with how you treat black people!”

American: “So says the Australia who does nothing but complain about Aboriginals”

Australian: “No, see because Abbos are actually bad people! You americans are the racists!”

The fact is that you Australians are racist, bigoted idiots who avoid dealing with your issues by focusing on the US. Which helps you cope not only with your inferiority as a country, but helps you avoid ever acknowledging your own blatant problems. Aboriginals have it worse in Australia than any demographic has it in the US.

So you Australians should stfu and keep your nose our of America’s business when you people are actually the most disgustingly idiotic, ignorant, racist morons on the planet.

          • Tron says:

            You never had slaves?

Tell that to the Aboriginals who were forced into labor by white Australians.

It’s amazing how every single fault that is in Australia, which is almost always worse than what exists in the US, is pleasantly ignored because you and your nation of mental retards just conveniently point your finger at the US all the time.

The ONLY people in Australia who are not poor and impoverished are whites. The minorities that you have tend to have it far worse than minorities in the US. The only reason race is more of an issue in the US is because we actually address it, and we have more minorities who have more power and thus more means to bring race issues to public attention. You Australians are not more multicultural or tolerant than Americans, the exact opposite is true. You’re just so racist and at the same time so UTTERLY STUPID that your entire national psyche is dedicated to focusing on the US and exaggerating problems in the US so that you can avoid the inconvenient, unpleasant process of self-criticism… a trait that American has that Australia lacks entirely.

            • youknowwhattimeitis says:

So, what exactly is wrong with an all-white country? You guys are arguing over who is more multicultural and less racist as if you’re keeping score. What’s wrong with a white Australia? Are Australians under some obligation to create a rainbow-colored multicultural utopia? How many poor Australian emigrants have left to live in China or Vietnam? Does, say, Pakistan have an illegal white Australian immigration problem? No? Alright then…let the Ozzies be as white as they want to be.

              Yeah…that’s what I thought.

  31. theblob says:

Ever heard of scholarships… someone with a so called 179 IQ working three jobs must be lying about their IQ if they would rather work instead of applying for a scholarship with that high of an IQ. Or they aren’t deserving because they are underachievers.

    • Mira says:

…no? Sometimes they only offer so many scholarships, and sometimes they run out of money because they hand it out to people who really and truly don’t deserve it. Take Southern schools, for example. I know someone who has a very good GPA, works two jobs, dances full-time, and still has to work extremely hard to keep any scholarship he manages to get a hold of. I also know several people who skip classes routinely and show up for exams when they absolutely MUST (how they get away with that with the absence policy I will never know) and yet they have full scholarships because they are “minorities.” Which they aren’t, in Alabama.

No, you guys just start riots every time your home football (and I mean soccer for all the trolls out there) team loses (cough cough LIVERPOOL cough). Sports are too important everywhere, In America we just have a bunch of sports that we care too much about, (football, basketball, baseball, hockey) instead of just football

      • Mentlegen says:

Not to mention whenever teams win, that riots ensue and a good couple hundred thousand dollars go down the toilet in damages , from over-excited, drunk, sports fans. England isn’t the only place that has riots from sports related activities. I’ve seen videos of crazy sports fans running around a city, flipping cars, trashing stores, lighting garbage cans on fire, and generally, making a giant mess and costing the state/country more money, just to pay for all the damages.

    • amanda says:

Except your government just tripled tuition because it’s bankrupted itself.

    • legion says:

No, but you have to eat English cuisine.

    Interesting.

    • Trek Girl says:

My thoughts exactly. I’ve read through many of these comments and nobody but you has pointed that out.

Most of these commenters have no idea who this young man is, what he is capable of doing or how hard he has worked, yet they are so eager to hop on the “He and people like him are why I can’t get into college and why my life is hard” train.

      It’s just pitiful.

      • Barney Mcbiggle says:

Darron Thomas has a 3.3 GPA at the University of Oregon, normally this would only be mediocre, but the fact that he is at football practice 4 to 5 hours a day, taking ungodly physical abuse, and every other weekend is spent out of state (not inlcuding the month taken off for the national championship), its actually quite impressive. Being a student athlete and still scraping a passing grade is incredibly difficult.

  34. vodalus says:

Actually, my state school not only gave me a free ride but actually paid me an extra ~$20k due to my high school academic performance. Of course, that was 8-years ago, before the economy went in the toilet and I studied engineering…

Here’s a tip: most scholarships are awarded by departments, not by the University admin. So the odds of being awarded a scholarship increase if you attract the attention of a department that has a lot of money. Athletic departments generally have money because they are pretty high profile and boost alumni involvement. Science and engineering departments generally have money because they attract government subsidies and corporate sponsorships. Liberal arts departments almost never have extra money. Math departments vary.

If you can figure out what makes you exceptional in comparison to basically everyone else who’s applying, then you have a good start in figuring out how to get a free ride to college.

  35. RikaMX says:

darron thomas can read the defense better than any other QB in the college nation, cmon hes just picking his nose, everybody does that, but he got caught on national tv lol.

oh, i recall that george w’s iq is approximately 130.

some say that obama’s couldnt be higher that 119 because he didnt qualify for some scholarship that requires a min of 119 iq.

just reporting the facts with no subjectivity.

  37. Eric says:

Technically the person with the 179 IQ was born that way anyway. Wouldn’t it would make more sense to give it to the person who works as hard as possible to get those grades and then still need the 3 jobs?

    • Orly says:

This. People who work hard but don’t stand out as exceptionnal deserve an education too.

This is comming from someone who worked hard for his exceptional marks. I am no more worthy than the guy who works as hard and had 5% lower grades. Yet ”I” got thousands of dollars, allowing me to work less, worry less and focus more on studies, thus raising my odds to score high again. This was not fair. At all.

  38. kytfox says:

I agree that you need to get the department attention. My niece got first, a 4 year (everything) scholarship at U of Hawaii, then a 2 year (same deal). Matter of fact, Scopes in CA, and U of Hawaii, fought over her. So I know it can be done.
I only got $5,000 a year but that is still a lot of help.

  39. Adam says:

So…because he has a booger that means he must have a low IQ and doesn’t deserve to go to college?

    • Trek Girl says:

Kudos to you for noticing how ridiculous this whole thing is.

It’s funny how so many people chose to argue about who deserves a scholarship and who doesn’t and all those other topics instead of just saying “Wait a minute, we don’t even know who this guy is”.

  40. Laura says:

Anyone remember when going to college was about GETTING AN EDUCATION!

One big problem is that almost every job these days requires a college degree. Even jobs that don’t need one. By all means, people should be able to go to college if they want to, but the purpose behind going to college should be to get a higher education toward a goal, not to have a giant party and take classes that make it clear that for most people, college is basically would high school should be but isn’t anymore.

Secondly, “Oooh, he’s bringing in a lot of money!”

Yes. And? And doesn’t that tell you something? Anything? Bruce Coville said it best: we pay our athletes millions of dollars, but our teachers, THE PEOPLE WHOSE JOB IT IS TO TEACH FUTURE GENERATIONS OF LEADERS/SCIENTISTS/DOCTORS, are paid such a pathetic salary that it’s a joke. And the response from the sports fans is always “Well, no one pays millions of dollars to watch someone teach kids.”

No. And while I like entertainment, doesn’t it indicate that something is deeply, seriously wrong with our entire culture when we put such an enormous value on some people’s ability to throw/kick/hit a ball and none whatsoever on the people whose professions actually make an impact one lives?

But if it weren’t for this nose picker getting a free ride, the boosters wouldn’t be donating small fortunes to the school and the cost of education for all students would go up. As for that one student every 1000 years with the 179 IQ. I don’t think we need to worry about him so much. MIT will take care of him.

That small fortune goes to supporting the football team and does not support anyone other than the football team, unless one includes the students paid to tutor and take tests for the idiot football players.

We really are picking winners, aren’t we?

  45. Dan says:

It’s Capitalism at work: The football player will bring the college more money than the high IQ kid, at least in the short term.

  46. NomTiger says:

How terrible that someone who lives, eats and breathes a sport from the time that they’re a child, rigorously training virtually every day to excel in their chosen field and continue to put themselves at risk of physical injury against tough competition every week, WHILE THEY STUDY and have to maintain a B-average in coursework, gets a “free ride”. Truly a travesty.

  47. Cowlifornia says:

:/ At least in Europe you have to earn the right to be in a good school. Around here they make everyone pass. Not everyone is smart enough to have an M.D. after their name.

  48. Humans Are Fail says:

Yep, we’ve got our priorities straight, don’t we?!

This is a perfect illustration of how we are failing.

Sports are a complete waste of time & resources. Imagine how much we could have accomplished by now if the money that is wasted on giving losers like these scholarships and the money that is wasted paying “professional” athletes (that are always in the news for getting busted for something, anyone notice?) had been channeled into research/development and positive things for our country.

  49. Frazer Hans RichArdson says:

I thought all yanks were mad for football?!?.

  50. Liia says:

woow. so you’re figuring just because he’s playing football he’s not smart? plus good choice picking a black guy. f**king racist.

  51. cadavison says:

OP sounds bitter and jealous, as do many comments.

There is nothing unfair about distributing free money as the institution sees fit.

  52. Almeida says:

These players generate a whole lot o revenue so colleges can afford better lab equipment and provide for scholarships for all the good students. At least that’s the way it should be.In Europe colleges don’t have this system and often struggle to get funding, often relying on the governments, lacking on competitiveness. On the other hand you have colleges in America that compete with each other and are capable of generating revenue on it’s own, providing a better college system based on competition between them. They independently fight for having the best players for sports revenue and the best nerds for patents. If there is as guy that has to work 3 jobs with that kind of IQ it is because he is a lazy bastard or colleges haven’t spotted him, cause they should be glad to have a genius onboard. But if you still think that America sucks just look at the top 10 Universities in the world and see that America has 7 of them on that top.

  53. Kelsea says:

Lies!!! My boyfriend has an IQ of 130-something and they’re paying him to go to school, not the other way around.

  54. Alleged Accomplice says:

College football supports itself and other parts of the athletic dept. at the big time schools like the guy in the picture attends and we have all and still all pick our noses. We just hardly ever have a camera on us when we do it. If it weren’t for college football those womens field hockey teams wouldn’t be there. They have to be there though because of title 9.

The 179 IQ kid, how the f**k did he not get a scholarship? The poor one, does he not qualify for pell grants? Or other types of student aid that does not have to be paid back?

Go look at the amount of money spent on academics, the pay of those professors who in many cases can’t be fired even if they can’t teach. Just get a load of the retirement payout on those state employees, YOU ARE GOING TO BE PAYING IT.

Raise taxes on the rich some of you might say, theirs the real trickle down economics for you right there. Whatever you buy from some rich corporation or individual will go up in price, you will pay that tax for the rich. Trickles right on down to you.

We vote in this country and some of you are right about what the f**k comes out of that in many cases, hell most cases. A million people in jail because of pot. Millions more for other drugs. Yet the streets of our major cities are infested with gangs, quit making gang signs by the way, those of you not in one. You are making more acceptable, adding coolness to a group of people who gang rape little girls into their gangs. Do you think that’s cool?

I’d much rather have that guy picking his nose on national tv than doing that. College athletics is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is damn sure not the cause of anything but a very tiny percentage of the problems of this country.

    I await your flames.

a kid with iq 179 would get any scholarship he wants. poor idiots who thinks they have an iq of 179 are the ones who need to work 3 jobs to get through college.

    • Avast says:

Exactly, he may have an IQ of 179 but i’m guessing he didn’t do crap throughout high school and got a 2 something GPA and wasn’t willing to take any ‘hard’ classes.

He’s more at fault than this player is, honestly.

  57. Orygun says:

I know the dude is picking his nose – but the poster could have “picked” a better candidate. That’s Darron Thomas, U of Oregon quarterback. He’s an extremely bright kid, could have graduated from high school early but wanted to play football. (Go ahead and Google it..) He’s also from an extremely poor family – a scholarship was the only way he would have ever seen the inside of a university anywhere.

His scholarship was completely paid for by donations from alumni and the athletic dept. (Which is a profit center.) No public funds were used.

Of course, the first thing I’d tell him would be “Darron, if you don’t want to end up on a demotivational poster – stop pickin’ ‘yer darn nose!”

    • bitter white bish says:

Extremely poor families qualify for Pell grants. By “extremely poor” I mean families of 5 with a salary of less than $32,000. Because that’s what I had, but didn’t qualify. I applied for every academic scholarship I could find, and was granted a whopping $250. I spent more than that in application fees. I could have graduated early too, one summer class after my junior year to knock out Government, but I didn’t because I didn’t want to miss out on Prom, or any of the other social activities senior year had to offer. I however can’t throw a ball, so I didn’t get to go to a University. I graduated high school with a 4.0 gpa, and now, I’m rocking it at a Community College, where I’m maintaining my 4.0. It’s going to take two, or maybe even three times as long to get an Associate’s, due to factors that will make me an irrational racist if I bring them up. So you’ll pardon me if I tell you to stick it sideways regarding this young mans “accomplishment”.

  58. Fgsfds says:

  59. Phillthbot says:

Even I know that smart kids get scholarships in America, and I’m English.

  60. nytehawx says:

Just because the football players are getting a free ride, doesn’t guarantee them an education. Most of these ball players are being pimped out from the NCAA. In the Division 1 schools, they force the players to take crappy majors and just concentrate only on football. Also, if those ball players want to concentrate on school and give up football, they would LOSE THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS.

BTW, IQ is completely irrelevant. It is all depending on your surroundings. Those IQ tests are very bias and don’t trust them one bit. I know kids who have IQs of 160 and up and they’re dumb as a doorknob in school. Think about that.

    • Rexxar says:

You’re confusing grades and intelligence. Those two are not in any way related. Everyone tells me I am extremely intelligent, however, I barely passed high school. Does that make me an idiot? No, that means I saw through all the ‘education’ bulls**t. I’ve learned more outside of school than in, sadly.

The whole point is not that football players get scholarships, but that schools focus more on sports than academics. The rules on athletic scholarships are good in theory, but it tends to be that teachers will either be extremely light on athletes, or just flat-out give them a free pass.

It’s somewhat debated what IQ actually measures. I usually go with the idea that it measures your capacity for learning, and overall critical thinking ability. The IQ tests you find online are not reliable, nor should they be trusted. There are two ‘real’ IQ tests, but they have to be administered by licensed psychologists.

  61. Mrnoname says:

God, I hate being American… Because in America, if you are a white male, you get significantly fewer scholarships than if your are female, or if your skin is colored. And you get idiotic women & minorities who still think you get everything handed to you.

    Irony, anyone?

  62. ds says:

Nice to see all the Europeans feeling superior to America again. As well as all the self-hating liberals.
In Europe, only about 10% of the population goes to college. That’s all the socialist system can afford. And now they can’t even afford that, and are dismantling it as fast as they can (see: UK). In the meantime, the socialist system is so expensive no one can afford to have kids, so they are committing demographic suicide and will be taken over in 10 years by Muslims (or by fascist nazis who are being elected all over to try to stop the Muslims). No, Europe is no fantasy for me! (And yes, I have lived there).

    • Camys says:

My God, I have seen this before in other threads and I tried to ignore, but this is too much…

WHAT IS THIS SOCIALIST EUROPE YOU TALK ABOUT?

Honestly, the only country still living in a MILD socialist system is Cuba. Which is in Central America. Or maybe China, which is in Asia. There´s NO socialist country in Europe. Just because they have “social programs”, it doesn´t mean they´re socialists. Go read a goddamn Marx book. Geez.

  63. ds says:

And to all you geniuses: when 90,000 people pay $100 each to watch you do your homework, you will get a free scholarship too.

    • madcapfeline says:

And when Mr. Football suffers a career ending injury at 25, he’ll be pumping my gas with his liberal arts degree that he earned a C- in. Good thing we spent all that money sending him to college.

If you don’t like America so much, leave. We don’t want you anyway. This is the best country in the world because we work hard, babies like you who cry about everything wrong need to go somewhere else. We worked hard for our freedom, and these football players work harder than any of you. Plus, no one with an IQ of 179 goes to Oregon. C’mon. This is dumber than someone with an IQ of 79 would create

    • Rexxar says:

It’s people like you that make everyone hate America. You’re just another ravening idiot screaming about ‘MERICA and firing his shotgun into the air. Please, don’t ever procreate

  69. Rexxar says:

I’m lucky enough to live in a small town where our schools will spend money on anything.. Except academics. Fund comp sci or remodel campus? F**k computers. Build a softball field next to the baseball field, or a safe practice field for the marching band? Spend TWO MILLION DOLLARS on renovations, but somehow we have a shortage of PAPER. Seriously, the course offerings at the high school are only 1/3 what they were four years ago. The band has to use the parking lot for practice. We get hurt a lot cause it’s so uneven, and have to fight for space when there’s a sports event going on. And seriously, what’s so goddamn interesting about football practice that 40 people need to sit and watch? We’ve had the same lockers for 40 years, and half of them don’t work, but we have more important things to buy, like cheerleading uniforms. It’s really just sickening how much more we focus on sports than academics. And people wonder why americans are so fantastically stupid.

    • meghann says:

my marching band has to practice on the parking lot too!!! i almost broke my ankle tripping over one of the cracks

    • trollomite says:

thank you oxeater idk if anyone else noticed it cause im not reading 300 some odd comments but if you have and IQ of 179 your a genius 130 up is gifted who ever made this over exagerated alittle

  73. Jen says:

Professional athletes are overpaid and overrated. All that money that they’re making could be going to people who have careers that REALLY matter like oh, I don’t know, TEACHERS. You know, those people who work their asses off to motivate the big-headed quarterbacks who cruise through school on their social status so they can get real jobs that actually do something for society as a whole. And what do teachers get? A slave’s wage. So do social workers and counselors, who have to work their asses off to keep the general public in working order, but can’t quite do it right because the government just doesn’t care about what they do.
And don’t even get me started on how much the athletic department sucks the life out of the departments that can actually get students jobs. I’m pretty sure a kid majoring in advertising or business has a better chance of making a living than the high school quarterback does, yet these departments don’t get any money and the kids in them are getting far less than what they should be getting. Pisses me off.

  74. Chris says:

As much as I hate football, and sports in schools in general. Just remember that while this idiot may get a free ride, and the smart kid needs to work 3 jobs to reach success, fast forward a few years down the road…
Can you picture this guy working for a “nerd” in a few years after he busts his knee in a game? LOL

  75. James says:

i take it none of you realise just how hard college footballers have to work for their courses, cus if you did you wouldnt be spouting on the way some of you are….pathetic.

  76. Sjors says:

So glad to be born on the right side of the ocean. Long live European school systems!

  77. USMCAlltheWay says:

Maybe nerdboy or girl should have hit the gym instead of the books… Just a thought. Just kidding but seriously the majority of the kids with an IQ of 179 is not paying for their college. Its the kids with average intelligence, average athleticism and a good kid that has to work three jobs to go to school just to try to better himself or herself. Don’t even bring up how hard it is for these girls who are young and single mothers. There is relatively no chance they can go to school. Leave the nerds and athletes alone and lets help out the ones that really need it.
