A stupid bimbo who went to….some University, but was kicked out for making a video insulting Japanese students talking to their families on their cells.
The Daily Bruin[1] reported that the UCLA administration responded, calling the video repugnant, and printed Alexandra’s apology.
Clearly the original video posted by me was inappropriate. I cannot explain what possessed me to approach the subject as I did, and if I could undo it, I would. I’d like to offer my apology to the entire UCLA campus. For those who cannot find it within them to accept my apology, I understand.
UCLA officials said that Wallace would not be disciplined for her actions because her video was a form of free speech rather than hate speech.
Allexandra Wallace who posted a racist rant against Asian students who speak on the phones in the library thus ruining her life.
I thought she used the word Japanese in the video somewhere.
I think she was ranting mostly about chinese people, but towards the end she said something like “I know they’re calling their families because of the tsunami, but blabla…”, hence showing she doesn’t even know the difference between Japan and China. Which brings me to the question…how the HELL did she even get accepted!?

OK. I agree with most of what you said. I just have to point out that there WERE tsunamis in China… They were caused by the earthquakes in Japan.
The tsunami had a minimal effect on China because Japan was between the earthquake and China and got the worst of it

She made this around the same time as the tsunami, soooo, it was in really really bad taste. She also singles out Asians, not anyone on their cell phones.
She did say at the end of the video that she wasn’t trying to be racist against asians- just that she’s never seen or heard anyone of any other race doing it.

I don’t know if we need to defend some absolute human right to not be offended in order to censure people for poor taste? (Censure but _not_ censor).
If you choose to speak in the public realm (people are saying blog post?) you expose yourself to the judgement of the public and to the possibility that a lot of people will disagree with you and/or dislike you on the grounds of the opinions you express.
Whether people are overreacting to what she actually said is another question and I haven’t read / watched the relevant stuff so I can’t comment on that!

While it is true that there is no right to be offended, were have every right to judge people for failing to meet the standards our society has set for acceptable behavior, and private organizations have the right to punish those people who fail to meet those standards as well.
She has every right to act like a douchebag, but she should then be expected to be treated like a douchebag. And she was.
I’m sorry…who exactly makes up the standards for acceptable behavior? I’ve seen time and time again where one person is condemned for doing or saying something that is socially unacceptable, yet another person is given a pass for doing the same exact thing.
Before society starts setting standards to judge people by, maybe society shouldn’t be a bunch of douchbags who put sets of standards for all sorts of people.
I’m not trying to defend her…although she does make a point (although I have seen other groups besides Asians do the same thing), it wasn’t delivered very well (should have thought the response out more…taken some time to really think of reactions, etc.) The point here is, before anyone starts quoting some standard for society that we are suppose to follow, they better make sure that they judge everyone under the same standard, not just who they feel like it.

She singles out a particular group, mocks their way of speaking in a derogatory way (the accent and the ching-chong bit), makes generalizations about their ability to function in the world and about the quality of their upbringing (bc she’s the product of sterling parenting), and, according to her father, wanted to make a website about “Asians in the library” and was making videos. But she said, “Don’t take this offensively,” so I guess that makes it okay. Isn’t that how it works? Don’t take this offensively, but your mother is a wh*re, but you know, don’t take it offensively.

I watched the video but while it was offensive…I almost died laughing. Free speech lets you express your opinion freely, which she did. However, it doesn’t spare you from having to deal with other people freely expressing their opinions of your free speech. If she didn’t have the common sense to keep her views off of youtube and she became a social outcast because of that, well, it’s her own lack of planning and foresight. Honestly, the biggest shock to me was she didn’t think twice about putting this up on the internetz. It’s not rocket science to see that some people may react negatively.
You can tell this was emotionally driven. If she was using some common sense, one of the following scenarios would have played out:
1. She would not have posted it on YouTube.
2. She would not have made comments that may get her in serious trouble with people. Granted, not everyone will like the response, but the way you deliver it determines whether you are labeled an insightful genius or a babbling idiot.

As someone that is learning both Mandarin and Nipponjin, one of my favorite things to do is wait for some jackass like this bimbette to say something “intelligent” like Ching cong, ting tong, ling long.
