THE FACT THAT THIS IS NEWS
should make Americans sad
Because I don’t know about you, but international trade always brings a tear to MY eye.
it does….
The… aren’t ALL homes in the USA made in the USA? Or is this talking about all the materials made in the USA?
They are referring to materials that originated in the USA only.
Most fixtures, wiring, fasteners, siding, roofing, and other materials come from overseas. Generally the lumber or steel (depending on building type) comes from somewhere in the US.
I don’t see how it’s a bad thing to use imported parts. It promotes trade, allows you to get lower prices, and even helps build relationships between nations (which we all need!).
completely agree
You know how you get those lower prices, right? Low/no safety standards, child/slave labor, no environmental precautions, cheap/shoddy materials, low/no quality control, etc. But I guess none of that matters as long as you don’t have to pay a little bit more.
Because it is ludicrous to believe that any nation can sustain itself for any real amount of time solely as a service provider. You must be 14, seeing as how you obviously have no comprehension of the high unemployment rate in America, and how many people are suffering in this country due to loss of jobs. Why do you think America was so prosperous after WWII? It wasn’t because everyone worked in an office building. But no, you’re right. It’s not a big deal because it helps build relationships between countries. Please read a book.
If it weren’t for Canadian lumber and canadian gypsum (for sheetrock/drywall) you wouldn’t HAVE houses in the US… so smile, Canada loves you!!
Oh really because the biggest sheetrock manufacturer in N. America is Oklahoma (last I checked) and fyi. Oklahoma isn’t in canaduh. 8^) Oklahoma also has better cannabis than BC. ;^)
Canadian lumber? Perhaps, but let me introduce you to a little place called Oregon, Washington, and Northern California, also known as the Pacific Northwest, the origin of the best lumber in America.
Unfortunately most all of it is pine. Once upon a time homes weren’t make of green pine. QQ
I give it 20 minutes before it collapses.
You’re being optimistic, I’ll count to 5 and… Damn… ok, the bet’s off
You want a resurgence in American manufacturing and materials? Buy American then. I’m sick and tired of people acting like this is beyond their control. Every time you buy something, you’re voting for that product and that production method.
Well said. Just not like Bobama : buy buses in Canada to promote US workplaces.
someone has to drive a bus so theres your work space
The original caption is a fail.
That doesn’t look like an actual news story but like one of those ads that (poorly) masquerade as news stories off to the side on blog sites. So the only part that should make anyone sad is that someone fell for the trick.
Try to find appliances that are made in the US.
They exist. I can’t remember of the top of my head which ones, but they are out there. Source: I work at a major retailer unloading appliances when they are shipped to the store, and then load said appliances into customer’s vehicles.
Why should I be sad? If all homes were made that way, homes would be even more expensive, decreasing the quality of housing most people could afford.
You do realize that if your economy uses native materials it means those materials would be produced by local workers–that means better pay for the would-be customers. Sure, higher prices, but also higher income to buy the final product.
That’s called ‘inflation’ – the cost of everything gets higher, but the ratio of the cost to income remains much the same (or income lags behind cost as the rate of inflation increases). It’s not an answer to your problem, though more local production means the rest of the world gets less of your CO2 pollution so keep trying.
Right, because a third-world, smoke belching factory produces much less CO2. 9_9
No it doesn’t…
Sure DC may want you to believe such dribble, but it is a lie.
It cost a higher percentage of your income to buy a product today then in the 50′s…cost went up, but income levels have not increased to compensate, to meet your DC propaganda ideal of the workers income increasing to match inflation.
Look it up…it’s the truth.
Caption fail. People are better off when they cooperate rather than trying to be self-sufficient islands. Lines on a map don’t change that.
Incorrect it’s still standing.
Autocracy is nazi. Stop living in middle ages, welcome to the 21st century!
Apparently America doesn’t produce any architects.
^This. That house looks like crap.
and it should be made completely, not completely made. Stupid journalists should know better than to split their infinitives.
And you should learn the difference between an infinitive and a participle, kettle.
its also fugly
I bet it’s still built by mexicans though..
noone minds that this is a damn ugly house?
FIAT currency.
Look it up, and guess who uses it…
Now look at how the buying power of the dollar has declined ever since it was adopted.
Once you have that info, check out how inflation has increase parallel to the decline of the dollar.
Most of those cheap products are mfg’ed in China or countries with similar practice of slave labor wages. (Where the ‘owners’ keep billions in profits while the workers do not make enough to live on)
ya, it sucks, but it’s the truth.
I agree. Corporations are so greedy that instead of giving well paying jobs to Americans that they use the cheapest labor they can get, which is pretty much foreign labor. America needs to stand up and make it’s own materials instead of buying the crap they make in China which is essentially produced by slave labor.
There’s a reason why jobs are so hard to find these days, and this is the reason. Outsourcing is NOT a good thing.
“Corporations are so greedy that instead of giving well paying jobs to Americans that they use the cheapest labor they can get.”
This! A company I used to work for had to “downsize”, so they closed two offices here in the US. But they are keeping their call centers in India & the Phillipines open…
It’s amazing how such a little thing can build so much conversation! But really what are any of you going to do towards your ideals? Will you only buy american goods? Or are most of you young people barely scraping by while trying to be happy, derping around on Memebase looking for a laugh? Are most of you going to buy the cheapest thing you can find because you CAN’T afford anything else? My family has fallen so far that they can hardly keep from having their power and water turned off each month. Both my parents are unemployed, my mother and younger sister are both diabetics surviving on the Oregon health plan. Their car no longer starts without a jump, their house has unfinished walls and my little brothers room (with used to be mine) has no installation and in the winter water will freeze and it is unusable. I’m 19 years old and never had a job, I have applied to hundreds of places and only ever gotten one interview. But it still could be worse, we have a roof over our head, we have food in our fridge. We have chickens and a garden and generally we are happy. I’ve never been starved or been persecuted because of my race or religion, I’ve never had a natural disaster destroy my family or home. I’ve never even lost a family member to war. So maybe a caption on some website meant to be funny should not be ridiculed so much, maybe we should work more on enriching each others lives. Maybe complaining about how unfair things are is pointless. If you’r not willing to DO anything about that you want changed then you’r just as lazy as the fat cats you condemn. But that’s just my opinion, and after all I’m just a 19 year old who never had a job and hasn’t gone to collage yet.
Most don’t have the clout to affect change individually or have the resources (not just money) to impose said ideal. Hell if in your region the market is oversaturated with foriegn goods, guess what you get to buy due to the implied monopolies involved.
Cant figure out if build by lefties who love locally produced things for environmental reasons, or by tea baggers who hate the rest of the world.
But.. I’m from Montana…
“cry’s silent tear”
my house is made with American materials. BUT its allso over 100 years old
