Well, if you go to a lot of websites based in the U.S. (such as this site, youtube, and facebook, among others) then yes, you will be affected. SOPA has the potential to take these sites down. Which means regardless of which country you’re in, you won’t be able to view them anymore.
In all seriousness: Yes, your country might decide to adopt similar legislation. It will affect all US based websites (I could be wrong but I think this is one). It will limit creativity and innovation on the internet. How might this affect you? Well we all use the same internet so it will just be a worse place. Many websites you might visit (youtube, reddit, etc.) will be shut down. There is even a case where the US demanded that a UK citizen be sent to face US charges although what he did (posted some links or something) wasn’t illegal in the UK. It WILL affect the world. If you are not in the US please petition our state department which deals with our foreign affairs.
TL;DR: YES INTERNET WEBSITES GO BYEBYE. TELL STATE DEPARTMENT
i’M not sure if it was universal… but when Donkey kong was made, a movie studio tried to sue nintendo, claiming they had the copywright. Nintendo’s lawyer found out that the studio (i think it was universal) was sued over King Kong, and successfully argued that the character was public domain.
So yes. they will claim it’s theirs even if they claimed previously that it belonged to everyone.
Yeah you’re also affected. Sites like Youtube are american sites. If one over-reaching company decided that they don’t like how they’re portrayed they can blacklist sites like these and no one will be able to view youtube. Not even if you’re european or asian.
Not to mention, if you LIVE in another country and break a US law, they try to nail you too. Some UK kid posted LINKS to copywrited stuff and now the US government is trying to convince the UK government to extradite him so that he can serve his 5-year prison sentence.
Not like Europe is doing any better, recently. The EC is still busy trying to jam ACTA down our collective throats, the UK already filters their internet, France already uses a three-strikes law and even here in NL our asinine government is considering bowing to their corporate friends to turn your average Joe into a criminal.
Seriously, you’re better off actually stealing a CD from a store than downloading said CD off the internet from what I hear of US law. How did that ever happen?
Don’t forget about PIPA they’re trying to slip that one under the more intense SOPA. MAJOR cooperations have put A LOT of money in SOPA and if you say that doesn’t mean anything I’m here to tell you it does.
‘Land of the Free’ – You’re doing wrong.
not to sound stupid or anything, but does the SOPA thing affect those who live in canada like me? (or any other country?)

As long as it doesn’t stop me from writing fanfiction, I don’t really care either way.
^this guy gets laid every night
With you?
Unless your fanfiction is deemed to contain copyrighted material…
Which it most likely would, considering they go so far as to copyright individual characters now.
And even if it doesn’t. As long as a company like Universal claims it violates their copyrights, that’s enough to shut it down.

Actually it will… fan fiction is based off movies or books right? YOU’RE A CRIMINAL!
SOPA + NDAA = Block all websites, and throw you in jail forever without trial if you try to get around blocks.
Thank God I live in Europe..
Ha, like this wont spread, or sooner or later be enforced by our army. Enjoy your next 2 years pal…

Not all servers are in US territory. They will just block this content to you, you know?
Block? HA! The US websites will be shut down. They won’t be there for you either. The world should be looking at this.

Like SOPA’s even going to pass. People are getting all upset over nothing.

truly demotivating
SOPA didn’t pass. But! Protect IP Act (PIPA) could still.
Like dr Cox said:
(watch before SOPA makes it impossible)
thank you, had forgotten that.
lol, that kid was on one of my school pamphlets XD
