  6. Gas Bandit says:

Jack Horkheimer: Star Hustler deserves placement among these men of learning.

  7. plump says:

It’s not “stupid” to not know a guy who was on the air 15 years ago, for crying out loud. And since Bill Nye is the one that made you guys think science was cool, he is the guy that screwed up your life.

    • Jfull says:

      ^ anti-science kid under 15

      respect level= 0%

    • Kathy says:

Friends was on 15 years ago, also. Just sayin.

    • Tem says:

Never seen Bill Nye, still know who he is. Because I’m not stupid.

    • Dymex says:

So our lives are screwed up because we like science? Please leave this planet. Please. If you honestly beleive that having an interest in science means your life is screwed up, then you really are what’s wrong with this world

    • Hoopy Frood says:

Bill Nye is still a respected scientist.

BTW, you can thank someone who thought science was cool for literally every aspect of your life. Cars, the internet, TV, radio, refrigerators, air conditioning, electricity…

Icing on the cake: your computer? Invented by a science nerd. A GAY science nerd, even.

Now gtfo & let the adults talk.

    • Cloud says:

you need to leave the internet and come back when you’ve hit puberty.

  8. >_> says:

    By all means, punch him.

  9. hunt119 says:

“richie eat your crust!!!” true fans get this.

  10. Bobby says:

    Who all those guys?

    • Laura says:

Bill Nye the Science Guy is circled
Neil deGrasse Tyson the astrophysicist is next to him
      Mr. Rodgers in the center
      Carl Sagan the astronomer.
Last but not least, Bob Ross, the Joy of Painting dude.

Now you should look each one up and find out why someone would feel compelled to honor them…

    • Moonshadow says:

You are the reason the education system is failing.

      • TheCowness says:

Now that’s backwards. If anything, the “failing education system” is the reason Bobby doesn’t know who they are… Unless he’s a teacher, I guess.

Personally, I only recognized Bill Nye and Mr. Rogers from my childhood, and Neil deGrasse Tyson from his frequent appearances on The Colbert Report. Except for Bill Nye and including Mr. Rogers (He died nine years ago), you’re not gonna learn in depth who any of these people are in a public school unless you have to write a paper on someone and you pick one of them from a given list of names. Even if a textbook mentions, for example, Neil deGrasse Tyson’s research, the focus will be on what he did and not who he is. It’s really not important to learn the names of astrophysicists unless you’re studying the subject in college…

        • conf says:

that or, from another country, with it’s own tv “scientists” it’s only through memebase that I’ve heard of any of these people. not because I have no idea about science, but because in the UK, we have people like David Attenborough, Robert Winston and Brian Cox, to name but a few. I wouldn’t call anyone uneducated to have never heard of these people, it’s names like Curie, Euler, Darwin and Nobel, that people should recognise.

          • Bobby says:

Exactly. I’m sure, you nave no idea who is Anatoly Wasserman.

            • damn your stupid says:

              *chuckle*
well it is said that he the father of chuck norris.
and he is a physicist who specializes in Thermodynamics and Kinetic theory
he dabbles in engineering and programming. and he has a sense of humor when you can find his stuff tranlated…….

          • TheShmow says:

We in Other Countries have a superior form of learning institution. It’s called “school”, which contrary to popular belief in some countries (those with TV scientists) is not Greek for shooting range.

            • Hoopy Frood says:

Alright, now we’re getting into nationalist insults. Leave those to the trolls, please, and try to have a civilised conversation.

          • Wani says:

This, really. I have a degree in physics, am not from America, and the only reason I know who any of them are is through Memebase.

        • damn your stupid says:

oh but let me guess..you know who Rodney Mckay and Samatha Carter or maybe professor Hubert Farnsworth, Dr, Emmet brown ,Dr. Alphonse Mephesto, or how about Julian Bashir or even Dr. Noonien Soong

I am sure you know who these scientists are and what their contributions to science are ..right ???

Dr Sagan is a renowned auther of books that expalined science so most people could understand it in everyday terms and concepts,

Neil Degrasse Tyson is also an author who wrote serveral popular books on astronomy. he was appointed to the Presidential Commission for Implementation and Space Exploration Policy ..

this is all common knowledge and stuff you should know…

          • Confused says:

“… stuff we should know…”. Why? Would you recognize pictures of Knuth, Asimov, or Burke? Don’t assume that the stuff you stated is common knowledge, and don’t assume that what you know “everybody should know”.

(Knuth – one of the most important people alive in theoretical coding.
Asimov – wrote some of the most engaging descriptions of mathematics, physics, Shakespeare, and the Bible.
Burke – one of the best writers of science history.)

          • Ruby says:

Just because you know who someone is doesn’t mean it is common knowledge or that “the school system is failing” like someone earlier said. There are countless intellectuals, philosophers, scientists, etc. that you would have no idea what their picture looked like if you saw it. Just because someone is important or smart and you know who they are doesn’t make someone else stupid for not knowing that.

        • aabbcd says:

Real sad thing is, Sagan was known for his science work before his tv shows. iirc he was involved in the plaque on the Voyager (or was it Pioneer).
He also the author of multiple very good books and even had one (Contact) made into a sub-par movie.
But no, if he did not pop up in tv, people do not know him. Or any of the other real pioneers.
          That is the sad part.

      • Nebulous says:

You are all missing the point.
        Those are not great scientists/philosophers/thinkers.

        They are TEACHERS!
They are, or were, in the Popular Media and TAUGHT people!!!
And they made people LIKE what they were teaching!!

  11. jean says:

    lack of knowledge != stupidity
outside of the U.S., those guys are not very well – known.

    • midzata says:

      true that

    • Ross says:

I know each and every one of these and i don’t live in the U.S. however the person who thought that was Ross Gellar deserves to be shot.

    • Captain Quark says:

I’m British and I know who they all are, I have books by some of them.
The Information is out there, it’s up to the individual to go find it

      • jean says:

the world does not only consist of english speaking countries…

        • damn your stupid says:

          wow your ignorance is profound:
sagans and tyson books have been translated into dozens of differant languages
Bob Ross’s painting shows are shown even in russia and china, they are still in english but with subtitles and text translation….

          • Rhys Mog says:

Saying things like “Your ignorance is profound” makes you sound like a pretentious tosser, so don’t do it. I really hope your name is a mini-troll, but if not, LERN YE SUM GRAMMER!

            • damn your stupid says:

              you are a pretentious snog,

I said “your ignorance is profound ” to show a point,

and the name is actually a referance to a to a long running joke ,that you obviously do not get.. but is actaully grammatically correct..

        • Slaggingham says:

Only the parts of the world that matter.

Nah, i just like to counter stupid with stupid.

        • saysomethingstupidagain says:

          It should.

  12. Phil O'Bannnan says:

There’s definitely a Ross in there.

  13. cartmania says:

Pretty sure the ross geller thing is the joke. So are people taking memebase seriously now? Or can we still make jokes?

  14. Dylan R says:

maybe they just had a terrible childhood?

  15. Zaracen says:

Why isn’t Levar Burton not on here?!

    • woods says:

I dont know whats worse… your suggestion of Levar Burton, or the fact that i know who that is…

      • Hoopy Frood says:

For years, Levar Burton hosted “Reading Rainbow,” a show dedicated to getting kids interested in reading. This is a cause he apparently still supports.
Why would that be a bad suggestion?

  16. Gabby says:

    I like Beakman better.

  17. Takemaru says:

    “To-may-toes”, “to-mah-toes”; they’re both science nerds.

  18. Soso Good says:

Lol @ thinking that Bill Nye can teach you something. He’s a pompous wannabe.

  19. Clearly someone missed out on learning. Wonder if it’s a member of Jersey Shore who made that demotivator (the first one, not the second one).

    • asdfds says:

      because television is for learning

      god i hate you all

      • Hoopy Frood says:

Why? Because we like to learn during our entertainment, or because we like to be entertained while learning?

You seem to be saying either:
“Thinking BAD! Magic picture box GOOD!”
        or
“Why can’t you all be as boring as I am?”
        I’m not sure which.

  20. Robin says:

Consider The Following: You missed out on amazing youth science programming, and you have my pity.

  21. asdfds says:

because stupidity is when you do not know some pupular figure from what may very well be another country than the one you grew up in.

Stupidity IS closer to the ignorance that makes you post these things.

  22. BeastReality says:

It looks like Carl Sagan turned up shirtless, and Bob Ross painted a shirt on him…

  23. Wheres the Mythbusters? Just saying

  24. Dragonrider1227 says:

    Y U NO HAVE BEAKMAN? D:
